- Copper standing with me at the decks all night to stop people going in the toilets

Playing a student night at Sankey's once, and some pissed/pilled up Scottish bloke comes up to me and decides that I'm the best looking guy he has ever seen, and keeps asking me if he can suck my cock in the toilets. Pretty distracting having someone attempt to stare lovingly into your eyes for felatio when you're trying to mix. He wouldn't stop for about 2 hours.

Mine is probably once when I was getting ill, my missus works in care so often catches bugs and brings them home, then inevitably I get them... was feeling slightly under the weather but not so much so to cancel the set... Mid set all seemed well, literally out of fucking nowhere I needed, and I do mean needed, to take a shit, luckily had just put a long tune on, sprinted to the loo (people looked pretty confused) and managed to get back just in time.

My first real gig out I organized myself. I had been waiting on some dudes to make something happen for a while and I was like fuck this I can do this myself. Had like 5 guys lined up to play late into the evening as it was a Friday. The venue was small, the system was bangin, and it was starting to fill up a bit. Only thing that had been an issue was the mixer lost power for a bit, and the house had to put music up for like 5 minutes as it got sorted. I step finally and I'm a bit nervous. I'm like a minute into changes when the sound guy informs me that they're closing the place in five (its 11 at this point) cause its an all ages show. Was quite shit. Didnt mind too much cause the other dj's had a good time and we were planning on doing this every 2 months or so, the next one being a big halloween shendig that was at one point looked like it was going to be the tits. Then all of the sudden the owners stop emailing us back as we're trying to organize the next show. We read in the paper in two weeks that the place got shut down cause they hadnt renewed their liquor license in like 2 years. The place still is closed which is a shame cause it was a great venue.

Mate, what you talkin' about, I heard Get Mad went down like a house on fire. Every single DJ was paid and no one was threatened with death or torture :cornlol: .

"EXILE" is easily the most fitting promoter name I have ever seen. 8)

So the 'Get Mad' story for me goes as follows...

I was asked to play a few months in advance, I was told I would be paid £100 and have my travel covered, so all in all, a pretty sweet deal. A few days before the event, the promoter asked if I could pay my own train fare and he would refund it with cash on the night. This set me back roughly £90, a last minute train from Manchester to London doesn't come cheaply. I arrive with a few mates 2 hours early, go grab a beer in Camden then head down to the venue. I got to play about on the system for a bit beforehand, it was a really nice setup, decent working turntables which I was not expecting at all, and a few of the other were DJs knocking about (which were mostly very sound guys), everything was really chilled and going smoothly. The opening DJ didn't show up, so I got to do an extra set which was pretty nice, I'd brought enough stuff with me to play for a good long while so I wasn't too fussed about doing overtime, things were all running nicely.

I then had to swap my set time twice with 2 other DJs, because others hadn't showed up, people couldn't get there on time etc, which is where things started going a tad pear shaped. I was not officially playing til 2.30, but it had turned midnight and I was beginning my third fill in set. There were nowhere near enough people in the club to make a profit, and alot of people were looking for the promoter, who hadn't been seen for an hour. Headliners were on at this point, I was watching EL B do his thing, Coki was on his way (he had flown in from Outlook), and Hizzle guy was playing in another room. It was then that I heard some commotion about the promoter not having any money at all to pay anyone, so Hizzle Guy and EL B Both stopped playing. There was no music playing in 2 of the 3 rooms, one of the DJs tried to steal a CDJ from the club as payment, which prompted a robbing spree where several DJs on the night (Including myself), had their headphones and other valuables nicked. The DJ stealing the CDJ was caught by security, and by now most DJs who were booked to play, had totally lost their shit and were on a hunting spree for the promoter, out to just kick the crap out of him. Security somehow managed to sneak him out, there were gangs of people out to beat seven shades of shit out of him that were increasing in number by the minute, til there was a good crowd of around 50 people outside that were asking around for his address, so they could rob him and rape his girlfriend, for swindling them out of £100. The club had shut by this point, and only 3 out of the 40 or so DJs that got booked were paid.

Several people were stranded, my friends and I (along with a few of the other stranded DJ's) had to go and sleep in the underground and get on the first train home. I was £90 out of pocket with my non refunded train ticket, £100 down for not being paid, and minus a pair of HD25s. It took me a good few weeks to recover the lost funds and get new headphones again, and it had emerged by now that the promoter was only 17. He disappeared from the face of the earth, nobody has spoken to him since, and it was calculated he was about 3 grand down.

I lost alot of respect for some DJs that were there, and how quickly they were resorting to violence as a means to solving their problems. Professionalism had gone completely down the shitter for the evening it seemed.

Funny thing was, the name of the night.

I remember a guy speaking to me prior to the night, he thought it would turn out to be a shit storm lol, turns out he was right.

1) Underaged, inexperienced promoter.
2) Large amount of cash promised.

:a:

I remember you speaking to me Tom about losing your headphones, why do DJs turn on each other when stuff like that happens? :(

I had my inklings, wasn't expecting it to go smoothly, but I didn't think it would get THAT mad...

Still, I got a good story out of it. And I got to play 3 sets. Some travelled for hours and never got to play...
