Had the Fisher Price toy flack using Reason but no, no one has called me worthless for using it. That shit seems pretty deep.

I remember a guy I was in college with swore by FL in 2001 or 2002. I wasn’t ready to give up my MPC (and was really only into making Hip Hop back then) so I was never interested. When I became interested in production I started using/learned Sonar Producer. A friend had Live 3 years ago and I loved the interface but wasn’t really planning on using it myself. After he pushed me to give it a shot (I was about to move to Cubase), I fell in love with Live. There are endless options and pretty much limitless possibilities. Besides I am a free jammer so Lives workflow is more conducive to my needs.

I have kept an eye on FL over the past 4 years and have almost bought it twice. Image line is having a sale currently on VSTs. Other than Sytrus, are there any other VSTs should I pick up/take a look at?

^ The "Juice Pack" is the one! Allows you to use some of their best effect plugins as VSTs in other hosts... I use some of them for Cubase, especially EQ2, Love Philter, Waveshaper, and EQUO.

You can make your own

I've been using FL for three, almost four years now. With enough experience, you can make FL Studio do anything that Ableton, Reason, Cubase, Logic, etc.. can do.

Well you can't get to sample level with audio in the the playlist in fl. There are some things that it can't do, others that it can't do well. But it that doesn't change it's preeminence amongst the daws out there.

Oh yeah that's one of the things I like about it. I don't think I've ever used it as an actual EQ really. Cool for experimenting though.

Something valuable that this forum has taught me is that all DAWs are equal. I literally mean that too, within reason so no garageband or dance ejay but the proper players all have + and - points and it's just a matter of which suits *you* the best or which one you learnt first really. I like to joke about other DAWs failings (see the DAW wars thread XD) but at the end of the day I'm never gonna actually look down on someone for their choice of software or think that mine is somehow better because *I* use it, that's just idiocy.

EDIT: FYI Reason *does* allow third party plug ins, it's called 'Rewire' and it seems a bit rediculous to me that in a thread made for fruity users to stand up for their DAW there are people slagging off other DAWs, hypocrisy levels are dangerously high. (I know for the most part people have been very intelligent and courteous in this thread, just talking about those few who have let the team down)

wasn't sure about gross beat so i tried the demo. it is super cheesy imo. not worth $49 let alone whatever IL normally charges for it.

love philter is nice...juice pack was a good call thanks!

I think FL gets a bad name because it's so easy to use. You get all these people posting poor quality work (soulja boy) on youtube and such crediting FL as their DAW of choice.

i dont really see how fruity could replicate live's session view (especially as effectively)

Nobody can replicate that.

But, fl has just majorly upgraded their live features. Basically you have scene level control with clips. Undoubtedly not as facile as live, but I think it might just be in the ball park. I really want to try it out, but have just been unable to get the time to do so.
