I know, we gotta move on with technologies blah blah blah... But shit, online shops, mp3's of set recorded by all the big dj's in the scene, online radios broadcasting a wide range of dubstep, they are technology! And people just don't do it anymore . If you prefer typing "dubstep" into youtube than dowloading last Bunzero, Ben UFO, Blackdown mix or whatever "filth" dj you like if you're into the "filth" sound, then i can't help myself feeling sorry for you and thinking you're helping to kill the work of the dj and the record shops.

And i know that makes me an elitist in the eyes of some people here... I couldn't care less.

amen brother!

technology is so great and accessible right now, using youtube to listen to music is like watching tv on an ipod nano. sure you get the gist of whats going on, but you're missing most of it. why handicap yourself when you could be supporting a dj, blog, record shop, online raido or even legitimate sites like grooveshark, pandora, etc. that help support the musicians in more valid areas than simple "promotion". be active in your scene, don't just take the easy way and listen to shitty youtube quality uploads. there has to be a time where we stop sacrificing quality for convenience, eh?

but then again, i'm probably an "elitist tnuc" or "hater" or whatever people call people who disagree with them these days... in my day we just called them people with different perspectives

one love, still

The thing is this channel has (had) a significant impact and influence on the dubstep scene today, for better or worse (i certainly think worse) so the debate is valid imo.

The fact that he has got a large number off bookings of the back of his channel is wrong, undeserved and a kick in the teeth to alot of DJ's putting in the hard work trying to get slots. The only thing this guy has done is press upload and happen to be lucky enough to be the most popular channel out of the hundreds out there in youtubeland. Hes not booked for his tunes, hes not booked for his mixing ability, hes not booked for his on stage performance, hes booked because hes a recognisable name and hes only a recognisable name because of the afore mentioned.

The fact that he pushes the filth side of things (which i particularly hate) imo is a significant factor in why the filth sound has become so popular and the darker / deeper side has been pushed to the sidelines. Its a sad state of affairs. I have spoke to some "DJ's" who have told me they rip tunes from ID's channel and play them out. I was shocked to say the least, but this does happen...

on a side note, people comparing Inspector Dubplates 'work' to the work of MAH is a fucking joke.

Best comment yet. Well said Wooda!

I also think its a joke he get's set from simple "popularity" from a website.

I personally think there should be a youtube channel called "DubstepForum.Com" which uploads different styles of dubstep, just not constant "filth". I'm sure we'd get alot of VIP's and remixes and exclsuive and give a better view of dubstep to new comers than he or UKF or QuantumDNB ever will!

I don't care if he got his fanbase through Youtube. He got a fanbase, that's all that matters. And most big DJs aren't very good DJs. They only get booked because they have good productions or they know the right people. There are countless better local DJs but they don't get booked because they don't have a name.

I mean hands down DJing isn't hard. Anyone can do it at a half decent level. It's all about having a name. I could care less if they get bookings through Youtube uploads or productions or sucking cocks, it's just as unfair to better DJs who don't have a name.

By the way I don't like most of the music he uploads nor do I like the stupid fan cult around him. But he just was lucky or clever enough to make a name of himself, there is nothing wrong in that. As I said DJing isn't about skills anyways because it's so piss easy. (Of course being a very awesome DJ is hard, but hands down 98% of the big DJs are just decent)

great idea. tough to implement. it was brought up a few years back when we struggled over the awards. on the outset, it would be an amazing way to showcase some talent, but if you really get into the nuts and bolts; there's a quagmire of issues. judging by how emotional and sensitive everyone is on this site about critique of any kind, i can guarantee that none of the mods or admins would even try to take this on, as it would be a shitstorm over who would decide quality control. no one would want that job. it would be hell.

I can accept when somebody gets bookings for having good productions and i agree, alot of the 'big name' DJ's are waste at mixing, but they are big names because they have contributed something to the sound, not just uploaded umteen waste tunes to youtube. Hes not clever in the slightest just lucky in the extreme!

I think im more bothered about the fact that the sound has been corrupted and bastardised so much that someone like this can get so many bookings off the back of fuck all then you see deeper artists, like Cyrus for example, talking about quitting because their not getting enough bookings. Its fucking backwards and a real real shame.

What a bullshit statement. Most people on here are far from affraid of something different, most people want the sound to progress and love experimental elements. All this filth stuff is just carbon copy after carbon copy of the same old crap that was 'new' 3 years ago and has been around in dnb for a decade!

No one wants to promote tunes through youtube because most people want to do it the old fashioned way, through myspace, soundcloud, radio shows and mixes! Not just throw away music for the 'i want it now, i want it fast, (i want it filthier than the last)' generation.

for a start, dnb, isn't dubstep, there's no use in comparing the two genres, because its like comparing deep house and fidget, or rock and metal. and i am aware that people will try something different, but if it isn't to their taste, then i don't think they have any right to completly slate it just because they don't like it. The majority of Inspector dubplates fanbase is completly retarded, and i know some people don't like this. I think if this fanbase was replaced with something that was somewhat educated, disscusions may take place, making the music more enjoyable for people to listen to knowing that other peoples thoughts are different to something like 'this is so filthy, i did something bad to my nan.'

also, people may still use 'old fashion methods' but this is a new generation, and obviously, youtube is a very appropriate way of promoting music, despite it being 'throw away'. and there are people in every genre of music who are the 'i want it now, i want it fast' generation. its not just the 'tearout generation' who are like this.
