Its easy to get bogged down in arguments about language. I prefer the metaphysical than the epistemological. With language and too much science you get reductionism. Ideas are what makes the world go round. Ego is identity. Identity is meaning. Meaning is human. Ego is Human. Human Soul ---> Ego --> temporal world. Its about balance.

It's okay, it's an old family joke. He means he'll cut me with love. I can see how most people can be confused by that.

He is still evil, however.

becoming like god is the jewish kabbalist way of saying becoming enlightened.

this book that describes how to become like god is a short little collection of wisdom about daily thought processes that stem from the ancient science of enlightenment. this is one of the many ways to wake up from the matrix. it's available on amazon for less than a dollar.

here's a guy who did it with psychedelics (read the manual)

Nick Herbert (Physicist-Author): American physicist, best known for his book "Quantum Reality".

After receiving his Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford University, Herbert took on several posts, in both the academia and industry, the most illustrious of which was senior physicist at Memorex Corp., where developed new magnetic materials, as well as magnetic, electrostatic and optical measuring devices, plus theoretical work on Lorenz microscopy. He was also senior physicist at SCM where he deveoped a new theory of xerographic process.

He also held faculty position at Monmouth, Illinois, where he was assistant professor of physics at Monmouth College.

Here, Nick Herbert discusses psychedelics and consciousness in an interview with Andrew Rutajit.

If being selfish "violates the laws of physics", as Berg says, would that not mean that it would be impossible to do? Or is it simply a poor choice of words on his part?

Just asking your opinion on this one particular part.

We haven't argued since we were kids.

I was just asking him a question on that particular issue. I found it confusing when I came across that part of the book, and he is more knowledgeable on the subject than I am.

I doubt that being selfish is against the laws of physics since we need to be selfish to survive. How can survival be against he laws of physics ?

The self is defined by a balance between the ego ( our interface to the empirical world ) and the human soul. We all just walk around reacting and relating to things, responding to what has meaning. Our souls allow us to give meaning and our ego gives us identity. (imo)
