Yeah, didn't really get that. I think there were intentionally some red herrings though, and some bits like that were just showing everyone has their problems, even if they don't go into detail.

It seemed like they were trying to leave lots of potential directions for the story to go, and just didn't bother tieing up the loose ones.

or he was just being lazy... he's recently had a kid (well about a year or so ago) and according to his cousin doesn't wanna be working much so maybe this was an easy way to get some cash.

Just thought the story didnt gel well together.

i think that was just to add to the grim mood of the ending of that particular episode - each episode seemed to have a slow mo montage at the end showing people crying n shit

meadows' best work has always been reliant on strong dialogue; be it for dramatical or comical purposes.
for four hours of television it just wasn't well written enough, any comedy (awful gadget/old bint storyline) just seemed lazy, skins-esque, and only put in to counterbalance some rape scenes.
