@jimbeaux loving that synth could do with a bit more variation

@weedcali what can i say that dubby tune made me wana blaze some for sure, not sure on that snare though, also needs to sound a abit more filled out if you know what i mean, needs to sound like theres more going on

@Intrudab2bangel so fat at :50 ish, i reckon the drums need a bit more work though

right, haven't been on in a while, heres my wip not really sure where to go after the break

@billuf: Heavy synth man, shit! Anywho it's def big, but I have to say your drums could use a bit of reworking (unless your totally going for that sound here) as far as levels go (adding some reverb on those snares would help alot as well). Also, to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the movie sample in the beginning, takes away from the rest of the heaviness in my opinion. But yea, honestly I think more time spent on the drums would really help move this track along. Bigger kick, subtler snare (once again, in my opinion). Also, it'd be a good idea to post some feedback before asking for some, always a nice gesture.

@billuf - I agree with blazinaidan about your drums, they're pretty weak - especially the snare. I reckon layering a clap sound over the top of it'd sound good. That said, I'm a big fan of crunchy, distorted snare sounds, so if that's not your thing then that's fine too. I love the Bill and Ted quotes, but some of the post-drop ones don't really work. The one at 1:48 in particular. Also you really need to tone down your compression, it's way too heavy. You can hear the mix come down whenever the snare hits. Other than that it's pretty bloody good dude, nice one!

@weedcali - Haha! That's awesome, so much fun to listen to :) More variation would improve it a lot, although I like that it's repetitive. Every now and then maybe a sample of someone talking would be good, especially pre-drop. It'd make it sound more professional. Nice dynamic range, great bass depth and sound and the drum rhythm is really nice. Try having the hihat on 2 and 4 rather that 1 and 3. Wicked so far

Here's a track I've been working on for a few days on-off. Let me know what you think.

@debaser1 - What you've got there sounds really cool - really dancey. I think your bass sound could be dirtier, at the moment it's kinda smooth. I don't know if that's what your going for or not. The drums are also kinda weak. I'd keep those ones in there for interesting background sounds, but some bigger, more obvious drums would be cool. Apart from that and the ending everything you've got going on sounds pretty polished. Nice one :)

@palo56 - Your track sounds pretty professional already, really wicked. I think your lead noises are a bit too high at times. Even just another synth making the same noise but deeper would really flesh them out. Your snare could be crunchier, that'd really pull the track along. The synth that comes in at 1:16 under the lead sounds could come in earlier and for longer. Really awesome start dude!

@Debaser - I think the sub is too loud in the mix. Your midrange guy sounds a little overdistorted/muddy and not loud enough in the mix. I think this could benefit from some variation in the drums, maybe add a little syncopation or something with the hats or something so long as it doesn't sound like a bar loop over and over. Drums need more presence in the mix overall, the kick gets kinda lost and so does the snare. I think the kick issue could be fixed with a more top-endy hit and some eq to clear it from the sub. Overall I think you need to work on eqing and mix-down as well as adding small transitional elements to kind of ready the listener to a new change in the song. I suggest you go read up on some mix-down advice I used to have a link to this great free e-book but I think you can find it easily with a Google search really helped me out a lot. I think the best part of this song is the melody which I enjoyed and the hihats are sounding pretty slick.

@jakedubber - cool intro for sure! I enjoyed the moodyness for sure. I guess my real question is where is your kick drum? Your mid-range bass is way too loud and over-dominates the mix it also needs some reverb or something to help it sit right. Drums really need to be worked on I think and boosted to stand out. Sub seems almost non-existent, could be too low or not in there since this is a WIP. I like the vocal guys, but they need more variation throughout the song to make it interesting cus its something that has been done to death by now. Its hard to give much advice over how this feels since I can't really hear the beat. But great job just work on your mix and make those drums stand out and turn that mid-range down.

@blazinaidan - kind of a weird tune im not a fan of that screechy synth going on in the background. Your kick is lost in the mix somewhere I can't really hear/fell it at all. I think there needs to be more variation overall cus right now it sounds like a long loop with elements added and subtracted. Mix needs some work so some of those higher frequency elements dont rape my ears. Hit this with the eq and mix hammer please!

K so here is another WIP I started for the Vaski - Jelly remix competition gonna try to get it in on time by monday so im trying to hammer it out. The original song is quite simple so I am trying to make it mroe or less as strait forward but more dancy and dark. Levels are not 100% yet but I think its sounding pretty poppin! Oh and sorry its so quite I forgot to boos the mix for a preview.

Also all feedback returned!

Your pattern sounds pretty sweet to me, just give the drums more presence. The key to it is to get a nice shuffle between the kick and snare.

You can do it anyway, hip-hop style, house style, grage style so many ways to make hihats for this genre which is why I love its diversity!

@ lordbid - pretty sick. dont feel the main synth too much. it sounds like its somewhere between wobble and dark if you know what i mean. i dont like wobbly music, but i think a tiny bit of high end on it plus some distortion would sound nice. bare sick arrangement wise though. cant really hear the voice, but i dunno if thats to do with the original stems.

@jakedubber - think your drums need to cut through a bit more and maybe use some different snare samples every now and then, otherwise it gets a bit boring. also, watch the rise up to the drop, its not really obvious a drops coming. any standard technique, sweep/rolling kicks/drum roll bla bla bla. good work on the synth, formants sound cool. also, some variation wouldnt be bad, like after the breakdown maybe change key, or go half time, or double time or something.

@blazinaidin - nice tune. hat sample started to annoy me a bit! ha. just stick a flange or trem on it or something to mix it up a bit. dunno if you want a serious groove in it or not, but i feel its lackin some sort of structure. but whatever, thats more of a taste thing. its nice to hear something different. i like the vocal cutting, do more with it!

if i left u out, its cos you didnt leave feedback

heres mine, dont watch the mix, i just dunno wat to do arrangement wise anymore.
