Achieved by following these steps (directed towards FL users)
1. Make a reese
2. Chorus, Camel Crusher, 2 instances of your favorite eq, fruity love philter, phaser, vocodex, blood overdrive. In that order on the insert track in the mixer.
3. On the first eq, make a manual formant shape and automate the position of each point. Make sure they stay in the same order, though.
The shape of a formant has been demonstrated in these screenshots, courtesy of @franzen:
http://postimage.org/image/31in0d2bo/full/ A - E - I
http://postimage.org/image/31iqbfrb8/full/ O - OE - U - UU
4. On the second eq, do typical neurofunk notching automation to get the reese to morph even more.
5. On love philter, make a low shelf and turn the gain up enough to get a big distorted sound while not being too overpowering, modulate the cutoff. After that, make a highpass and modulate the cutoff in the same way.
6. Make the phaser move at around .7 Hz
7. Setup vocodex so that it captures the movement well and also turn the Male/Female setting all the way to male. turn the mix of the vocodex down to about 30%
8. Don't use alot of preamp in blood overdrive, make it subtle, but play with the coloration knob to see what you get.
9. Replace the reese patch with something that pierces more and make it run through the same processing.

Can someone tell me what is so great about 'Skrillex'? Cos' I dont know what the big deal is. A more apt name would be 'SHRILLex'.

good one bro lol. skrillex's basses are seriously just neurofunk reeses with formant modulation and a bit of his own added processing.

@Jrisreal. Nice one. Someone actually posting something that isn't just Modern Talking with an LFO on it. Will have to try this, however the logic EQ is a painn.

Clearly a lot of people because there are 10,000 views on this thread

by 'who cares' I meant, it's so easy to get his bass sounds. Since that post, FM8 is clearly where all the monsters hide

jrisreal - couple of questions. firstly, is there another plugin that can replace fruity love philter? i'm using cubase. also in vocodex, what did you use as the carrier?

cheers, nice sound!

@VirtualMark, yeah you can use a standard eq to do what I did in love philter...low shelf with gain all the way up and then LFO the cutoff.

In vocodex, I used the same signal for the carrier and the modulator...its a good technique to bring out the movement. (Credits go to Manny for sharing this technique with me)

That isn't what I meant. I think it is incorrect to say that he is a dubstep producer. Saying he is a dubstep producer is a stretch. I just don't like the fact that so many people that, "love dubstep" only know about Skrillex. They don't know about Skream, DMZ, Mala, Coki, Benga, Burial, Pangea, Pinch, Distance, Loefah, Noah D etc. The "dubstep" they know of uses 4x4 kicks and is basically very catchy house with dubstep influence here and there.

skrillex actually does house and filth-brostep (listen to "In For the Kill" or "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" or "First of the Year")

I've heard all of those tracks. Still, calling his music dubstep is a stretch. I'm not trying to hate on him. In fact, I think he's good at making catchy stuff.

well its all brostep, subgenre to dubstep...so its not a stretch, its just not the type of dubstep that most people on here enjoy.

Remember that dubstep is 140 bpm bass music...and thats what those tracks are.

skrillex doesn't make house.
And i'd venture to say dubstep isn't just 140 bass music. all Dubstep is 140ish bass, but not all 140ish bass is dubstep.

DUBstep has dub reggae influence.
It shot off from garage, sped up a bit, met dNB in the middle stylistically and tempo-wise, and listened to a bunch of dub on it's way. It's super-broad, but i dunno if you can just shove anything into the two criteria you listed and boom, it's dubstep. It has to have the sound. just my 2p

true, very true...but thats how many people on here describe dubstep, as 140 bass-oriented music.

Isnt Kill Everybody and many of his other 4x4 songs fidget house?
