i for one, endorse this strategy to the fullest

also, Cityzen, i you dont sound crazy, i actually understand where you're coming from

but the stick doesn't bend dude

it just doesn't

quantum theory away as much as you like; but it don't happen brah

its nice to postulate that if it does happen though, or even if there is a possibility that is does happen that the consequences, will be significant to say the least

but at the moment, you cant bend a stick with your mind, you just cant, no more than we collectively cause earthquakes with our minds

im all for chattin about the theories if such an event was to occur though, its interesting to say the least

I can't believe I haven't been gunned down yet, especially as borrowed has been in this thread...
Anyway, (just for the sake of argument) we don't bend the stick with our mind, our mind bends the stick. Can you see the difference? But now we get into the territory of what is the mind? Is it different from the brain? What is it to be conscious? Is consciousness nothing more than the fabric of all things expressed in dualistic terms?
Now, maybe i'm wrong. Maybe it's all complete bollocks, but the very fact that, as of this point, I can't be proved wrong is the enabling factor of my philosophy. Being right or wrong is actually neither here nor there, but the very practice of this philosophy has stretched and expanded my mind, made me capable of new ideas, increased my problem solving abilities and allowed me to see and understand sides of arguments I would have discounted in the past. In short, it is my opinion (and the opinion of the people that have known me for many years) that it has made me a better human being, and that is all I ever set out to do.

as soon as you said 'our mind bends the stick' you get into the territory of sollipsism - you cant deny the external world has both physical properties and presence

well you can but the only way to take that argument seems to be sollipsism, and thats not a palatable solution for me, and it shouldn't be for you, who believes in a deeper connection between the world and yourself and others

WHO ARE YOU TO TELL ME WHAT I BELIEVE?

:6: Nah, i'm joking. Yeah, i'd never heard of Solipsism. A quick look at the Wiki page and I agree and disagree with it. It's nearly impossible to explain why without poking around with the ineffable... Which is unfortunate because we come to the tediously inevitable standstill of all religious/philosophical discussions.
I think this has been productive though and I thank you for your challenge and input. As a result of this thread i've decided to remove my current sig..... take that how you will.

Not really. If he does exist, and he is man-shaped (as the bible suggests) then there's no reason he couldn't come and have a blaze up with you at your house.

If he doesn't exist - well, that's where you can't prove it ;-)
Yes, but you're missing the point. There is no way of knowing whether a God or Gods exist, due to the magnificently convenient way in which all religions have been 'constructed', or so to speak...

'If' is completely irrelevant.
Yes, IF 'he' does exist, then 'he' could quite possibly come round my house and smoke up a big fat doobie... But what I'm saying is that there is NO way of knowing, and even then, you wouldn't be able to prove it, otherwise what would be the point in 'needing' to 'believe' in God?
