looks like I solved my own problem, if anybody is interested I basically just made a suspended C7 Chord, resampled it and applied a pitch envelope.... ta daaaaaa, my sample has soem mroe complicated parts but the basic idea is just a tense chord that rises or falls, apply sidechaining etc and your gold!
For that Knife Party bass...Sounds like distorted square waves. Freq split. Resampled. A lot. Sounds like a ton of harmonics are added (via distortion from freq splitting and resampling) in there on top of the hollow-ish nature of low pitched square waves. ?..
@teejayem: I don't have much experience playing with square waves in the upper registers, but I've always heard that those video game sounding/8-bit type sounds, originate from square waves. The modulation is definitely glide/pitch bending. Pick your poison of how you want to achieve the pitches, but that's what I have to offer...of course layering that sound over some lower register distorted bass...probably keeping the wave forms the same..
@MCstanglDubstep: If it's the first sound we hear, I offer this: get some detuned organ type waveforms. To me, it sounds super simple, and I'm not going to offer complicated advice. Splitting your frequencies will allow you to bring out the top end of the sound. Reverb and Delay are very apparent. I'd apply those after getting the synthesis down.
@TheDubEngine: You gotta play with your saw waves in the lower registers. Split freqs. Resample. Fx used I think are slight delays and reverbs in the higher end of the sound. It certainly has a formant quality to it Def reverb and delay after synthesis.
When I use the term resample, I don't intend to use the word in the ignorant context of "the magic button". My understanding: Bounce your sound to audio. Place the wav in a sampler. Just by being able to pick your start and stop time, create loops, and being able to play this across the keys at a slower/faster pitch, and thereby speeding or slowing modulations you synthesized before bouncing to audio. *obviously a small portion of what resampling really is/means.

That is the sound of something rich with frequency content being run through a bandpass filter, with the cutoff changing in quick sweeps over a relatively short distance.
Lot of stuff will work for the sound underneath the filter. You could even sample a lion roar and use that. Learn your sampler.

Easy, I was wondering how to build this monster of a bass from this tune by the one and only Coki...
The bass drops at 0:27, and I'm on Reason. I hope somebody can help me...
Thanks!

But no I can't figure that one out and I don't feel like experimenting. It sounds like, amongst other things, the sound of a resonant filter sweeping down (closing) with a very fast attack being used to create part of the sound.

All right.. the reese-sounding bass in this interview. It comes in twice in the song; once at EXACTLY 1:54 and again at 2:01. It sounds like it's ultra distorted due to bad quality, but I actually REALLY like how that sounds. Anyone know how to achieve something that fat and "bad quality" but keep it controlled? Preferably with the tools available in Massive, FM8, and Logic Pro.
I hope that gets released soon. Sounds so much better than the original Hydraulic.

Okay. So I'm working on a drum and bass track. There's a sound I'm trying to make
It's at 1:13 in the feed me track
and at 0:33 in the noisia and phace track
They both sound fairly simple but I can't for the life of me get anything close. It sounds to me like it's a reese made using triangles and or squares and a lot of chorus, but i've tried this using multiple synths and multiple instances of kontakt. I'm looking for a similar sound to answer this short line : Soundcloud
Any help would be greatly appreciated and reciprocated!

I'm wondering if ya guys can give me any clues on where to attack this bass line. I've been using massive for awhile. Sounds like a reese style bass (detuned saws) being modulated a bit. I can hear phaser, with stereo widening at end of the chain...but how do you get that raw goodness I'm wondering because it doesnt like any of the stuff I've been able to make. Also love how it kinda 'rips' as it pitches up and down, like right at the drop. sick!~

I've made something similar and used it in this tune: Soundcloud. forget all the robotic mumbo jumbo; it's the other synth that has gated notes as well as well as holds for half a measure. I know it's not exactly the same but I think it's somewhat similar. If you're interested I would be more than happy to send you the patch (I would tell you how I made it, but it took a lot of resampling and the steps I took I've long since forgotten.-> I do remember using a lot of Kontakts tube distortion though, as well as camel phate and camel space.

I wouldn't mind the patch to experiment with

Post it up! Your dnb experiment track was tight that you posted in the Sounds You've Made thread. Would love to check out the patches.

Is there a source that lists what oscillator waveforms, including the basic filter and effects routing, are used for certain wobble sounds? I enjoy learning how to make the sound from basic steps and than just messing with the parameters. This helps me understand how the sound is formed and how I need to automate it throughout the track.

There's 4 different uses of the same sound. The third is about 2/3 through the resampling process and the last one is the same sound but taken down a different route of resampling. Enjoy.

Not really. This is the place to go (and youtube tutorials). There's a lot of times when you can hear a certain oscillator being used (like the modern talking in massive is really easy to hear), but the more complex the sound, the harder it will be to hear exactly what the producer used to make it. A lot of times the producer will resample so many times that the finished product sounds almost nothing like the original sample. Search youtube as well as this thread, and look in the forum for past "how to make this sound" threads, because there are a bunch of them in the production/ hardware section.

Okay so this sound is probably really simple to make, but any help making the bass that comes in at like 0:22 and starts glitching up at 0:35? Soundcloud
It's kind of a signature sound for producers like Zedd and Porter Robinson and whenever I try to recreate it it never sounds as fat or full as in their tracks, no matter how many effects I lay over the raw sound.
So yeah any tips on making the bass as full as that in something like MAssive, FM8 or Z3ta would be awsm.

make a saw bass patch, apply effects (very much distortion), layer it with modern talking and white noise and you should have it. Ohmicide is recommended for distiortion
And if you want to make your own basses and not this one, fill out freqs is all I can say.
