is emo a type of music?
Emo believe it or not was originally a term to describe the emotional hardcore scene that grew from the ashes of u.s. hardcore punk in the 80's. Quite some credible and profound music was produced from this scene but it has since been hijacked by face-painted public school kids who play pop music.
emotional hardcore?
any links to some examples? i typed 'emo' into youtube and learnt nothing

well it was centred around washington dc with bands like rites of spring and embrace releasing on the independent 'dischord' label that has been responsible for so much great music over the 27 years its been going.
later on towards the end of the 80's and the early nineties bands like fugazi (containing members of rites of spring and embrace, also on the dischord label and a fucking good band) were considered emotional hardcore aswell. since then mainstream bands such as my chemical romance and their followings have seemingly hijacked the term to describe their own 'sub-culture' as this girl seems to think it is.
