Re: serious discussion about casual racism in europe
it's true, if you go to an area where the majority of men are of north african descent then most of the men who hassle you will be of north african descentjoeki wrote:In some cases, there's a very thin line between realism and racism.
Our country has been a stir with a new documentary.
Dutch and French speaking people should really watch this. There's also one interview in English starting at around 8 minutes.
http://www.deredactie.be/permalink/1.1380777
It's called 'Femme De La Rue' by Sofie Peters.
It's about being a Female in some areas of the city of Brussels. Where all females are constantly being hassled and degraded by men of North African Decent. Now, not all North Africans are like this, claiming that, that would be racist. But 99% of the perpetrators are in fact men of Morrocon, Tunisian, Algerian etc. decent.
I think she addresses a racially sensitive issue with a nuanced touch. Would you want your daughter or wife adressed like that.
It is also important that the issue is limited to certain burrows of Brussels, Antwerp and Mechelen, three Belgian cities with a large population of Maghrabian citizens.
Again, recommended if you speak Dutch or French (you'll be able to understand parts of it as the conversations are usually in French).
These women rights are clearly violated though.
of course when you are up in somewhere where the majority of men are white, the majority of men who harass you will also be white.
i'm not going to pretend there is no relevant difference in levels of sexism between cultures as there obviously is. and there's also a difference in levels of reservation people will have about going up to strangers in the street.
but this totally misses the point and turns it into some kind of nonsensical thing whereby ending sexism against women involves blaming immigrants for it which is just fucking lol. i mean really, does that really fly especially when you have to frame it with that patriarchal "what if this was your daughter/sister/mother" BS to get your fellow doodz on your wavelength and you can't go a day without someone getting called a slag or a whore literally in this forum.
when a white man does something just as bad no one turns it into a problem with those Rapey White Men. the other week a girl on my fb wrote a status update about some builder dudes catcalling her and a bunch of White Men commented about how she should get a sense of humour and are you a whore lol?
wooooo scary foreign men doing tings to "Our Women". pleazzzzzze

So basically they just say out loud some of the things us doods have said.about.chicks. on this forum? Do you now understand that when a thought is verbalizes the receiver is the one.who determines if it is offensive? Not the sender not tertiary folk but the receiver of the remark.
Point being its pretty cuntish to run around saying that's not racist when its.not.your place. Should just have the.respect for your fellow man to not joke about something as potentially offensive as race

i assume you meant this regarding sexism ? if not yeah i think dubfordessert hit the nail on the headdubfordessert wrote:those north african mugging condoning cultures huh.Perej wrote:

and if you mean sexism, i love it how everyone acts like the white/western/christian/whatever culture is any better than muslim/african/whatever cultures when it comes to sexism
some people are racists, some people are sexists, some people are stnuc, and none of this has anything to do with ethnicity
Re: serious discussion about casual racism in europe
You have a point, but you obviously didn't see the documentary (or can't see it because it doesn't allow people from abroad to see this).
There's a difference between being called out by a bunch of builders and what you have to go through in these areas and being harrased once per minute. And when you ignore it, you get spat on or called a whore. Also, these areas aren't some enclosed environment. Schools, Universities, supermarkets, public transportation facilities etc. are all within that area. This is on a different level entirely. And I don't think or talk about women that way as I imagine most people of that descent don't do either.
Here's what it comes down to for me: these men are bored. They don't have (or can't get, deffo a factor) jobs. They hang around all day on squares with nothing to do and focus their attention on Western females. The results are sickening for me. I don't go around spitting women in their face because they refuse to blow my dick for the 20€ I offer them. And you would be upset if your daughter came home to you with those kinds of stories.
Again, only about 1 in 20 people (as is estimated in the documentary) is guilty of acting like this. But it's hard when they're all from the same descent. This is what creates prejudice and racism. Sometimes I feel as though some of you are living in cultural fairy tales.
There's no causality with ethnicity, but all of this is an indirect consequence of it. And it's the sad truth.

Re: serious discussion about casual racism in europe
Politicians quick to point out at minorities to excuse how they didnt do fuck all to better the life of lower classes and the complete failure of 50 years of so-called integration policies is what creates prejudice and racism.

I'm sure I come a cross as some BNP ass hole for saying some of the stuff I did. I don't care, I know I'm not. I've been halfway across the world and felt at home everywhere I went. But closing ones eyes and imagining a society where everyone is holding hands and your local politicians are to be blamed for everything is what really pisses me off.
Some people are evil. Most of them became evil because of the circumstances surrounding them. And that transcends race and ethnicity. But every situation is a micro climate, and there isn't some universal rule, some ethic code or mentality that can fix any situation.

I'm a bit confused by what you're trying to say here... surely culture comes absolutely from where you're raised? An unborn baby has no culture.Perej wrote:Perej wrote:You can't blame all types of behaviour on where they were raised either, sometimes it's just in peoples culture.

Culture's not passed by genetics; it's taught by parents, teachers, friends and, well, the society you grow up in.
Ask a Bangladeshi family living on a street with Pakistani, Indian, Kenyan, South African, Nigerian, "British" and Korean neighbours whether they feel like they live in a multicultural city. Just because you can't tell the difference by looking doesn't mean they don't subscribe to different cultures! This is what it's like in parts of London like Southall. It's not multi-cultural anymore.. it's just people of Asian heritage for the most part, so it's not like you can praise London as being an advert for multiculturalism because even though the principle in itself is sound, in reality there is a lot of straight up segregation.
Multiculturalism doesn't mean 50% White, 50% "Assorted Others".

Hatch End/Pinner. This would've been late 80s when I was at primary school there.
