0:55, I've been trying to get this sound down for the past 2 weeks with no luck, I would love to hear any tips that some of you may have, it's an absolute massive sound and would go pretty well in the track I'm working on atm

Good luck man, let me know if you get stuck. Otherwise just fuck around, you'll get there eventually!
(Aha du är svensk?

I've been trying to fuck around with massive but it always sounds to "sharp" and not that warm as i want it.
I got Zebra2 yesterday, do you think that would be better to use? Otherwise, what wave's should i go for in massive?

Zebra2's filters are very good.talizman wrote:Maxxan wrote:Helt lugnt!

You should have no problems.

Re: That synth pluck sound in Zedd - Spectrum?
Yes i know! But i've been struggling with assign an Envelope to the cutoff, so i get that plucky sound, but i just can't get it to work. And there's not many tutorials out there.Electric_Head wrote:Zebra2's filters are very good.talizman wrote:Maxxan wrote:Helt lugnt!

@Talizman, yeah born and raised but let's not clog up the forums with our native gibberish, haha.
Well, there's a lot of talk of the different timbres of different synths but really there's not that much of a difference, you can definately get a good sounding pluck in massive. Have a look at some of the presets and you'll see it's definately possible. I know Zebra2 is an amazing synth as well but I've hardly used it as I don't own it myself (yet), but it should work as well. The reason I recommended massive is because of the amazing macro controls, because for this type of sound you want to automate a few different parameters to make the 'opening up' sound sound both big and yet subtle. You could of course assign different parameters of Zebra to the same envelope, but it's just easier in massive. Dunno about the quality of the sound though, but I know Zebras waveforms are pretty flexible. But some saw-squares and EQ:ing should get you a fairly warm sound in massive, don't think it should matter too much. Just basic processing, chorus, reverb, EQ etc and also, adding an osc in a lower octave should give you some warmth. I don't make a lot of plucks though so maybe someone has more specific/better tips.
If we're talking synth timbre though, I'd have to say Sylenth1 is one of my favorites when it comes to pure waveform sounds, the saw-waves sound absolutely amazing. I really don't like how envelopes and LFO:s are handled in sylenth though so I mainly use it for straight-up supersaws or crunchy basslines though, but simple envelopes for a pluck are no problem if you wanna give it a try. But really if you have massive the answer probably isn't another synth, just keep going at it. Open the project once a day and try to add one thing to the effect chain that makes it sound better, then focus on that one effect till it sounds as good as possible. Then move on to the next one, you'll get there eventually. Like I said, no one trick to make this sound.
As for the envelope, try taking it off the cutoff and just putting it on the amp (envelope 4 by default in massive) instead. Might be easier to hear how it's affecting the sound that way. Add a short attack with level all the way up and then some decay with level all the way down to make it sound plucked, then adjust the release to make it linger a while after so it doesn't sound empty, and tweak to taste. After that, put the same envelope on the cutoff and see if it works, or make some tweaks. Also bring down the resonance on the filter if it sounds weird, you don't need a lot (or any actually). Also, adjusting the maximum value of how the envelope affects the cutoff instead of tweaking the envelope itself works well. It doesn't need to go all the way to 100% if it's too bright.

How do you make that high pitched popping sound? I'm not talking about the actual oscillators, but how do you set your LFO to make that sound move the way it does?

How do I get this snare sound?
I wanna get the snare sound in this song, does anyone know if there are any samples similar to that in any of the Vengeance packs and how I would process them to make them sound like that?
This is the song I'm talking about

I'm sure this is a pretty simple sound, perhaps a preset found on massive or sylenth? but yeah, anyone know how to recreate or have the preset of this? it's not a bass, its a plucky melody synth chord at 3:12, once she starts singing, it sounds very beautiful, something youd typically find in a trance beat?

Im really curious on the production behind this style, and how you would go about creating a bassline(1.02) like that.

it's called popcorn most of the time. DSK Chaos Theory has a preset called popcorn theory which will get you there. Add reverb to taste.MassAphekt wrote:I'm sure this is a pretty simple sound, perhaps a preset found on massive or sylenth? but yeah, anyone know how to recreate or have the preset of this? it's not a bass, its a plucky melody synth chord at 3:12, once she starts singing, it sounds very beautiful, something youd typically find in a trance beat?

I'm just looking for a bit of help with this sound:
http://youtu.be/eJ7Q1EpW0zs?t=1m34s
I've got the supersaw down with a sub line, but it seems to be lacking the mid/bass and width that the one in the track above uses, so any tips?

Re: How To Make This Sound - August 2012
It's at the main idea (wall of sound) kind of part....This is just affirm what I'm thinking...
It's a bunch of layered saws yea? like there is def a sub layer and then just a mid range saw and then a bunch of upper freq stuff probably saws/plucks/strings etc right?
Sorry, but it's just irking me a bit that I don't have time at the moment to try it out. Thanks to all for the replies

Re: How To Make This Sound - August 2012
yes I believe you are correct (idk about the plucks though). but really it sounds so good because its a great progression and the harmonies are good.Toolman4 wrote:

ok so basically i want to know how artists like ital tek get that low passed yet bright and wide/lush sound...ive tried low passing and eq but they seems to loose their width even tho i duplicate and all that jazz that usually made things wide and lush. heres an example of what i mean
