I'm gear lusting over the new Elektron box hardcore.
http://www.elektron.se/products/analog
I use the full elektron setup along with a modular. I haven't edited a piano roll sequence in years and couldn't be happier for it. For me it's both the sound and the interface/workflow. It feels so much more immediate and tactile. I just record jams and layer and arrange in the daw. Having instruments is very inspiring for me, and leads to results that very different from what I create when working in software.

I really love my Monomachine. I won't say I don't use a piano roll at all, though. But totally agree with this post. After I hear some first thoughts I'm thinking of selling some gear to fund this! It's even really affordable...1099 doesn't seem unreasonable when you know the work flow Elektron offers, plus analog fun, and ...and...did I mention it's Elektron?

The monomachine is such a beast. A really deceptively deep synth. The fm engines alone are worth the price...

Yea, about the first month I got mine I was thinking "I can't believe I payed 700 dollars for this..." the SID engine is great for basses...I love the filters and p-locks for reese/twisted basses...just generally love the thing...so much digging to do if you are willing to put the time in.

Why not?
Since reading the Sound On Sound review it does sound like I'd probably missed out on a lot of the functionality of it so I'd have to have a go on it again. I had been thinking that creating sounds felt kind of restricted but I think that could have been mainly down to the fact I hadn't made my way through all the menus and shit properly (though if that's true I'm not honestly a massive fan of syntheisers that are controlled by menus rather than a clear signal flow to follow but that's me being fussy anyway as it's a small synth with a powerful engine so there's no other way round it).
I did still not particularly like the way the filters sounded and while the knobs did feel well made I remembered finding a couple functions that felt like the resolution wasn't so great. Here though this may be me being spoiled by owning or using a number of analogue syntheisers.
I think it did feel good performance wise and if the sound creation is more complex than what I had stumbled onto while dicking about then it is still a good synthesiser and for the money is very good value. It might just be me being fussy.

Thanks paradigm! Lots of monomachine in that tune. Also, loving the vids on your site.
I lurk over at muffs, don't post too often. I also used to work for PlanB before the dude went nuts and also built some LiveWire stuff during the time
Ive never filmed any of my jams, but I think I can find some pics of a desert party I played at with my modular and octatrack. I'll post them when I'm at my computer.

Wow that's a nice set up.
Anyone ever used a Dave Smith Tempest? I actually have enough money to get one at the moment. However it's probably not the wisest decision to go spunking it all on a drum machine.
If they really are that good though....
