Most popular trap rappers present and past (Gucci, OJ Da Juiceman, Waka (still Liked Flockaveli though), Insert generic" coke" dealer, are straight up garbage. Young Jeezy is an average rapper at best. AVERAGE.
T.I. although talented is hit or miss these days. Chief Keef can't rap, period. Even 666 Mafia, with the exception of Lord Infamous, none of them were especially great rappers. Not Juicy J, not DJ Paul, and especially not fucking Crunchy Black. Trap was always the worst movement in hip hop while being among the least well critically received. It spawned NO great lyricists on a mainstream level.
Maybe one of the best mainstream trap albums ever, Thug Motivation 101, is a pale shadow compared any of the Hip Hop classics or even Houston/Atlanta classics. Most popular trap rappers are objectively low skilled. This isn't about North VS South. East AND West Coast underground artists as well as the Houston region spawn superior rappers to the trap sounds of the Atlanta region, with the exception of T.I.

When the hell did I ever compare those trap artists to Guru and Rakim? When did I even bring them up? Guru and Rakim have nothing to do with Gucci Mane and Waka's lack of talent. It's not about being Rakim, Guru, etc. it's about possessing the basic skills required to adequately perform in your genre.
That and other criteria are the standards every rapper is being judged upon and it's reasonable to expect them to be proficient in at least one of the aforementioned categories. It's one thing to be an average rapper. Wacka, OJ, Gucci Mane etc aren't even average. They are far below.They have poor or no wordplay in their songs, choppy off-beat flows, basic rhyme schemes, and unoriginal or banal lyrical content. In what skill category is Gucci Mane good at besides being able to market shit music very well?
Even Waka has acknowledged his lack of ability. "People say, 'You don’t have lyrics,' so I’m just like, 'Lord knows Waka can’t rap'...I'm being sarcastic...throw it in their faces. I really don’t have an answer for them."
Pastor Troy, Denzel Curry are rappers mentioned previously in this thread that make ignorant music but have discernible talent. Denzel has a great flow, Troy has outstanding delivery.
I can appreciate an artist's raw energy and emotion in Waka's case. But I can't nor will I overlook their sub-par rap skills.
It's like saying to a singer "it's ok that you can't stay in tune, you don't have to be Luciano Pavarotti or Aretha Franklin"
It's a logical non-sequitur. The Franklins and Pavarottis of the world have nothing to with a singer's complete and utter lack of singing ability.

Talk about comparing two different, completely unrelated things... Punk Rock artists still had strong lyrical content, basic singing, writing, arranging, and instrumentation skills.
Nobody expects every artist to the best in every respect. But everybody should expect that a performer have the basic, fundamental skills to perform in their respective genres.

i agree with the guy who's slagging off most 'trap' rappers to an extent, but the points he raises don't really come to mind when listening to a lot of these guys, if the tune has a feeling or atmosphere about it then i'm cool with it.
and actually if you listen to something like o.j murder story by gangsta pat or anything on the tape that guice did, that's easily comparable with any classic new york shit, for me anyway.

I never said anything about making that style of music being easy. Also, it's irrelevant whether or not I can make that style of music, I never compared them to myself. I was comparing them to their peers in the industry. And I'm not quite sure you mean on the production or rap end, anyway.
For what it's worth, I never dissed the producers. Guys like Shawty Redd, Lex Luger, Bo-1da. Drumma Boy, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League etc are very talented. In fact, I would give them a lot if not most of the credit for these rappers' mainstream appeal.
