For me the game had its moments - the first time you get to the GFS Valhalla for example, creepy as hell, and the Skytown level was beautiful to look at - but overall I preferred the first two titles in the series. I wanted to like it. :?

although only just reachin the halfway point now (just dropped the nuke on the second seed shield) i do in some ways know what you mean. i think the flying to different areas detracts from the 'one massive planet/environment' feel of the other games but overall i am muchly lovin it. the controls, although takin an age to get used to, are beeyootiful, i love free aiming. the bosses have so far been plentiful and sick as well.

what exactly didn't you like about it (bearing in mind where i am in the game)? apart from what i mentioned above it's not that far departed from the other 2 in the series.

Only if you're comically impressionable.

Oops, hope I didn't spoil you!

Mostly I didn't like the last act, which you haven't played to yet. For all the buildup and 'saving the galaxy' ringamarole, I don't feel like they tied it up with an equal ending, or gave enough explanation about the how's and why's of "corruption". Maybe that was explained in a lore I missed? To be fair though, Metroid games have never been heavy on the resolution.

Also it's a nitpick, but the pacing of powerups could have been better too - you only get the last beam for a short period of time for example - and the ship missile upgrades, after the first one, are useless and exist only to have something else to collect.

The problem is I'm comparing it to Prime 2, which was gaming perfection IMHO. :)

i could not get with gamecube metroid controls at all

its fine if you take the time to get used to it and then stay with it but after putting the game down for a few months, it just made me nauseous

2 was way too scattered and the dark zone play was so tedious. prime was the best out of all 3. 8)
