Ok. Here we go:



It's really easy to fuck up this kind of sounds. Sometimes even the slightest movement of a knob can vary the result of the sound.
Trying tons Of time I understood that a great part of the effect these guys have is by saturation and distortion. Good things happen when you chain a sine shaper and a brainer tube/tele Tube.
What out not to give it too much or will fuck the sound.
This patch should give you the an almost ready sound.
Apply some EQ to remove the Sub and to place it in the right spot in the mix at the begin will sound mote subby and low mid range but when you cut the sub and boost the higher mid range the sound will come up in the speakers. it's a midrange bass after all. Add some more saturation to taste, some slight chorus and reverb.

Wow. Dude.
These are the types of sounds that I think would improve my productions if I could master.
All the sounds in there are great, but especially the "WAH" sound in the beginning is really really nice.
How did you make it?

I made that sound in Massive based on Hashkey's screenshot, but as I was making it, I saved the patch several times along the way. By slightly altering certain knobs or by turning off some of the effects, you can turn that into lots of cool sounds. For example turn down the distortion and phase mod and now you've got a nice subby/lowmid patch with good movement. Move the filter, change the LFO rate, change the pitch decay, change the wavetable, etc. All of those things will result in cool sounds. Do different combinations of these and you could easily get dozens of different sounds out of that screenshot. That's what this thread is for!

it sounds layered to me. i would take an unaltered sine in one synth and use that for the sub. then for the more middy part of the sound, i would take a saw wave. lowpass filter it, but not too much, leave a good amount of room for those mids to come through. pretty basic patch really. maybe do some detuning, chorus, bit of distortion but not a lot, etc. and then to get the rhythmic aspect of that bass, take an LFO and apply it to volume mainly, but also to pitch or filter a little bit. overdoing it on the pitch/filter will sound really obviously bad. you gotta just apply a really subtle amount of LFO for the pitch or filter to get that effect. let us know how you do man.

ofc use the same midi for both sub and mids, and maybe even do the volume LFOing to the sub as well but don't do it with pitch/filter.

Sounds relatively close. You definitely got the rhythm down with the LFOs. I would do a bit more lowpassing and maybe a bit more distortion to change the timbre of the saw wave a bit. Maybe light bitcrushing would work, not sure. Also, and I'm only listening on earbuds right now cause im not home so take this with a grain of salt, but mark pritchard's version sounds like it has more sub. maybe experimenting with the amp envelope for both the sub and the mids would help get the right balance of sub and mids. the sub sounds more punchy (no attack, short decay, no sustain), whereas the mids have a longer decay time.

sounds like pitched 808 kicks to me. try transposing an 808 sample. or if you're synthing your own, make a sub patch and put an envelope on pitch in the negative direction. mess around with the values and notes until you get something you're happy with.

I'm not gonna walk thru the whole thing but some key elements:

-reverb
-getting the stabby envelope right
-using the right source (wavetable - metal sounding)
-LFO acheives the "wuh wuh" effect

I would use massive or fm synthesis for that. probably what he used.
