We are not discussing admiration though. But music. That shit has nothing to do with it.

Just clocked that Beyonce - Video Phone was 2009 so qualifies, utter banger, gets my vote!

Part of me wants to agree with that, but the other part says you've got to earn that spot... I haven't got any problem whatsoever with Dizzee or Wiley making shit pop to move units, because they've both contributed heavily and deserve the opportunity to stock their pension fund... there should be some sort of entrance exam for that gravy train.
We are not discussing admiration though. But music. That shit has nothing to do with it.
Also this. Whether Ke$ha's clever or not, she's still made some of the "Worst Pop Music of the Last 5 Years".

It's not even just that, but being a gossip/shallowness/shit enabler is fucked.

Pretty much. Same reason I don't mind Wiley's change from grime genius to the shit he does to make p.

Fuck this way of thinking.
Why? You're on a forum filled with thousands of people who probably don't listen to it. You're not forced to listen to her tunes are you? If she's willing to make music that LOADS of people like, purely as a job, then whatever, my favourite artists are still making tunes and I don't have to listen to Kesha.

No. I caught her live in one of the dance tents at Glastonbury a few years ago with my pop-loving ex... it was a truly terrible experience. She can't sing very well, her songs are sub-playground moronic and she's too skinny to sell the dance moves she's doing. I don't get exposed to a great deal of music I don't like these days, but Ke$ha genuinely left me in a rage that day... proper fucking tnuc.

Nah, not using it as a reason to like her, just chatting a fact, guess most people assume cos of her music persona, she's a fucking idiot. Here's a couple of articles about it.

Well, on topic, her music is shit.

And clever or not, she's started her pop career in exactly the manner that a tnuc would. So I'm content to call her a tnuc. A clever tnuc that wastes her intelligence making inane excuses for art, sure, but a tnuc nonetheless. Shakira's clever and not a tnuc. Phil Spector was a properly clever tnuc. The two things aren't connected.

The argument that we aren't forced to listen to artists that use impossible amounts of p to make sure we don't have the choice of escaping it, are you seriously using that?

lol, I wasn't going on about that  man, kesha has vexed you. This school near me got took over recently, and it's acronym now is KESHA, screwing haha.

haha, yes, I am. Why do you care what music other people are listening to? You definitely can escape hearing it. Don't turn the commercial radio on, don't go on commercial music TV channels, don't search for the tunes on youtube or whatever, and at most, you'll hear it in the background in a shop or something. Also, dunno if you know, but there are a lot of people that actually LIKE these tunes man!

Also I reckon making shit pop music is unethical. You're forming the tastes of people so they're only open to shallow shit that's completely plain, emotionally monotonous and won't help them grow as a person.

hahaha, I hope you're being sarcastic. Most people aren't actually interested in music like we are, they're not bothered what they hear. If there was no easily accessible pop music, odds are they wouldn't listen to any music at all. Not like if the radio station my mom listened to shut down, she's just gonna go and grab an Aphex CD or something. Also, shit is entirely subjective.

that just make u sound like a twat lol

who the fuck cares if people like kesha, if people get enjoyment from something i really dont get why ppl hate

not everyone got the time or effort to listen to music that will 'help them grow as a person'. + that sounds so fucking retarded anyway

if u dont like it just dont listen

and on 'grow as a person' bit, hows listening to 90s gangster rap any better... but im sure you dont flame ppl for that

Well, I might be going slightly hard for Wednesday afternoon entertainment's sake, but...

Honestly, I don't really get exposed to shit pop music any more so it probably has a bigger effect, but being dragged to a show of hers felt like I was a toon going into the Dip from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. IT BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRNS.

I've even enjoyed a Gaga festival show... and a Rihanna show at the O2...

Exactly, it's wrong. What I'm saying is.. if someone like Gareth who is properly into music and knows his stuff, doesn't reject a principle like that imported into music, because it impresses him on a financial/world-view whatever, then it's almost certain that his acceptance will lead to a collateral sell. WE have to nip it in the bud.

righteous indeed.

I'm kinda kidding of course, culture is never successful if you cram it down someones throat, that's pretty much how it was with radio in the 60's. The BBC or in my case the NRK would only play educational shit plus classical music and then our dads would try to listen to radio luxembourg or whatever other pirates that would play the rolling stones or something.

But then again, I reckon commercialized radio kinda fucks things up and I don't necessarily believe it's for people's best you know. The best thing would be to have radio organized voluntarily by the local community play music from local artists, or at least local DJs who played according to their own taste, and not some big corporate scheme where you have to play the new rihanna shit from america 500 times a day. But all that would of course have to be agreed upon by locals, who have to see the light to some degree I suppose. Can't just to forcing people to listen to "better" music.

Not a big fan of her music (although she does have a knack for driving a melody into my brain) but her stage performances piss on most.

That just isn't true. Almost anyone will have someone who's oppinion they trust and get their info from. Most of the time that someone would be you. That doesn't change the importance of that role though.

lolololol. Like I said, music is subjective. There's a lot of people that actually think that music is good. This thread is testament that even us true heads think there's a lot of good pop. I think the vast majority of underground tunes are shit, so I'm certainly not bothered that some people are getting rich off of the "casual listener". You can't just go round like "I don't like these tunes, so therefore they're bad for society".

People forget that for a tonne of people, music is just something that's there, not an interest or hobby like it is for us. You could put anything on the radio, and they wouldn't give a shit. If Mala had millions of £s, I'm sure we'd probably hear DMZ tunes on Radio 1 drive time.
