shortest: 2 days. longest: 8 months of writing, then a year w/ no movement... release this winter.

For tunes that i give a shit about, it's rarely under a week.

Some days couple of hours, then others can take a few days or a couple of weeks

never more than a week.

But on average...3 days

yeah sometimes I'll get 90% done in a few hours and then leave it.

I've got two that I've finished but not exported yet.

To be honest, it varies with me.

Sometimes I can bang out a finished tune in a week, sometimes it takes months. I did a couple dnb bootlegs a few years ago that i was able to finish up in about 5-6 hours. Really depends on what kind of music I'm writing - It might take me a month or two to write some complex IDM music, where as I can probably bust out some hip hop beats in a few hours.

usually around 6 hours of straight work, i find it hard coming back to a tune the next day unless the majority of is finished or the majority of the ideas for the track is there. i find if i try coming back to it another time i'm either full of ideas for a new track or i'm not in the same state of mind i was it when i was making it (if that makes sense) and take it in a totally different direction.

i've noticed that the better my sound gets, the longer i take on tracks.
it used to take me one night to write and master an entire track, that at the time, i was satisfied with. but as i learn more, and strive to sound better, it takes me longer and longer. now, if i work on one track from beginning to end, without working on anything else in between (which rarely happens) it'll still take me around a week or two. i'm gunna say that by this time next year, probably a month or so.

Anywhere between less than a day to several months if I forget about a tune and makes some other ones. Generally, it's a couple days for a tune I really like.

been working about 6-8 hours a day for the last 4 days straight on the one i've just finished, damn i'm braindead. the tune's worth it though :e:

and yeah i agree, longer you spend the sharper you can make it, specially if its techy stuff.

noisia spent 6 months making 'the tide', and there's 3 guys working on it! WTF!

I'm slow as fuck, and never finish toons, am dabbling in abelton, and I think thats gonna change my finish rate.

Trying not to mix as I go (but not succeeding). I'm just taking the first few honest steps with eq and compression, and that shit can really slow down writing music if you're doing it at the same time. I suppose at some remote point in time I will be able to instantly dial in the proper eq and compression for a given sound as it comes into the mix, but now, I'll do some eq compression, work on another line, then start obsessing about the release time or something on the comp and whether the high boost on the eq is too much, or not enough. Arrggh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

around about 2-3 weeks on average. but my concentration levels are so shit that once i think i'm making progress on a tune,i'll switch off and do something else for an hour. this also happens when i get stuck for ideas.

between 2 days and 2 weeks. If it takes longer than that I'll feel like I've fallen out of the loop and will probably never finish it!

i find my best tracks seem to take fucking ages. i think its because more thought goes into them.

e.g. the one im working on at the moment has already taken about 2 weeks and i've only really just finished the first drop.

I'm starting to chop up different bits of older unfinished tunes, and put them in whatever the current tune is. it can be very useful

takes me ages to do tunes. normaly 2 to three months if i get them finished.

takes me the best part of a day to get my a drum beat made or a bass patch programed and sequnced. couldn't even begin to contemplate making a tune in a day.

wish i could to be honest not getting nearly enough done at the mo

If I had all day at home....I'd be in that camp. But I get a couple hours here and there in the day. When I wake up....and then by the time I get home, within 1.5 hrs of working on something I'm too tired to continue.

indeed this my problem, i do a full time job and only have the energy 1 -2 hours in the evening then long sessions in the weekend, so i make slow progress. normally forget what i was going for the weekend before so end up restarting all the time.

so yeah need to find a way to start getting stuff down faster, ho hum
