I agree with sio2 about this whole illegal mp3s in clubs, i think that dj's who invest into their work deserve the credit for their mixes. If you support the artist, then the artist would release more vinyls. If everyone downloaded mp3s, vinyls would lose sales, producers would lose money and they would be less motivated to write their songs. Thus this brings mp3's to a grinding halt -- Without vinyls, mp3's would not really exist unless its straight from the artist.

On the other hand, i wouldnt of heard of dubstep without listening to a set which was an MP3, and thats the first time i heard Skream's well known 'Midnight Request Line', and the dark 'What' Remix by Geeneus.

Recently i was looking for 'Snake Eater' by Joker, and i came to a forum where people where absoulutely begging for an mp3 release. So i brought the vinyl and found that an 320 mp3 was available with the vinyl. So there are benifits of buying vinyl.

personally, for me it's not about having illegal mp3's on your computer. it's about having them on your computer, then taking'em 2 the club and dj with'em, get probs for it and get paid for stealing...lol.

peace.
yeah but in fairness how many threads are there about these things and if it's such a big issue then leave your computer and go and talk to your local ombudsman about piracy issues.

i take your point about getting paid for theivery, but you know what, there are worse problems in the world.

Although this sounds unrealistic.... I think it would be a great idea... And that is for clubs to take responsibility based on there dj's and / or local dj's and the content they play. The concept is plain and simple... Provide PROOF that you purchased that digital released material.
With the amount of websites that sell digital media, There is always a proof of purchase / Receipt at the end of the purchase. Its plain and simple... You print out the receipt and you store it. That way anyone who bitches you out and accuses you then you have solid proof.

I wouldn't be suprised in the next few years whether the feds will have agents that will roam club floors to ensure whether if the content is legit or not. And in the end if it ain't legit then they would close that club for the violation.

don't u think now everything has been told around that topic ?

totally agreed.

choice of format (mp3,serato,cdj,vinyl) and the filesharing debate is utterly rinsed out. it's about as exciting as a heartattack now.

let's get back to the most important point about putting pressure on your local promoters to come correct, and book dj's that come correct.

can you tell us how much best dubstep dj in Bulgaria earns per year (from dubstep dj gigs in Bulgarian clubs)?
and how many people attend regular dubstep night in Bulgaria?

people are gonna fileshare. ya can't put the genie back in the bottle. you can expend all your energy trying to stop it or chastize people about it, or you can focus on doing your thing and rising above.

i am still a firm advocate of labels releasing more digital. if people HAVE the option of buying them, there will still be some who will steal (the same ones who would steal anyway), but those who WANT to buy them in digi form will have the option, and the artist will make the monies. simple enough.

i've called people out for playing illegal dnb tunes here.

you just have to try to educate the perps by stressing to them how small these scenes are, and how much it can hurt the labels. when it comes to tunes that are never going to be released (such as something like Fucking Hostile by Kemal & Rob Data), you have to remind them that if you respect the producer, you'll respect his wishes to not play it since it never came out.

Sio2 wrote:All good. Your perspective is valuable . sarcasm is sometimes easily lost in digital places like this. i dont know everything and recognise sweeping generalizations arent fair. *shrug* It is always a risk to "speak out". But taking risks is what its about in this world.

Edit: it seems my bringing this issue to this forum was something i didnt have permission to do. *laff

*turns on the brights*
no worries then. u are definitely allowed to raise whatever issues u want (at least to me). i'm just looking out for the reputation of most average users of digital reproduction products (such as serato), and some in particular (myself included).

after all, no sense in inadvertantly discrediting some of the most upstanding and respected artists in and around this scene, especially since someone just coming into dubstep might look to threads exactly like this to form an initial, but lasting impression of its community.

i say: let's be open-minded enough to acknowledge that there's evil in the world, but also sober enough to know that the tools used to do evil are not themselves evil!

This tired subject which has being going around in some form or another since the early days of napstar , illegal file sharing/playing is here to stay , there is nothing that can be done about it . And the biggest hypocrisy here is that everyone posting in this thread probably has something downloading illegally on their pc and is using it either to watch, listen, convert, record or produce ...so what makes you any different from a dj who plays 'illegal' mp3s?
If you're a promoter and it bothers you don't book djs that are known for it
if you're a label/producer and it bothers you don't give you tunes to anyone.

^the voice of reason.

i just wonder how many producers who bitch and moan have actually paid for the software they use. i haven't met one single producer who doesn't have at least one piece of software that wasn't installed with a keygen or crack.
