DJ Krave wrote:all i can say is that when i go DMZ i see that it is multicultural!!. that is one of the things that i love about it, it brings people together.

cant it just be music, that anyone can appreciate
i dont disagree with that at all. I just mean that i think it is better defined by the people involved, or as a scene, than by certain aesthetic coincidences in the music.

serious though, the reason i made this observation is coz im from a place where its just how ur brought up to be chattin street slang.
and i thought :? rahh boy, these steppers are catchin on..

And im not talkin about the people who have always talked with slang influences, I'm talkin about the ones who probly didn't even know these words like a year ago

So it just seemed in my head like the reason they were catching on is dubstep. :arrow:

one of my favourite simpsons scenes ever! it's the sitcom on pbs about a 'loveable bunch of english soccer hooligans' isn't it?

it means they get away with using the word 'wanker' at 6pm in the evening on british tv, which i'm pretty sure no-one would be allowed to do normally.

Shonky wrote:Think the problem is that with a gradually growing middle-class listening to loads of music made by the urban poor (I think "underclass" is a pretty repulsive term to be honest), and the embarrassment of actually being brought up fairly priveliged (oh, the shame...), that dropping particular phrases somehow keeps them that little bit more street (or road or whatever the fuck it's called now). I think if you actually run with people that use the slang, its cool, but if not you do run the risk of sounding a bit of a twat.
I'm probably 'M-C', but fuck that. I just love music.

And if I ever start bullshitting other people's slang, you have full permission to 'murk' me. :)

True enough, K... same in the whole South East - Brighton's no exception.

Spent my early teens in Milton Keynes >> rampant cockney.
Pretty much everyone here in Basingstoke >> rampant cockney.

Small villages still have a bit of rural to them, but the young people are mostly kids of ex-Londoners (as you say)
and don't hear anything else spoken around them. Watching Eastenders only pushes the 'commuter belt' effect. :?

"...new talk on road,
the wickedest ting..."

isn't the slang leaking out of, rather than into, the nukg culture(s) including dubstep.

btw: just wait till all the big dictionaries start telling ppl:
brap=good,
neckle=good,
chung=good,
murkery=good,
(also see: phat, cool, bad...)

innabegininwazzawurd,
innabegininwazzasownd.

I find humans communicating facinating. Particularly between people who are half a world away from me. Sometimes I'll go to the mall and stalk other groups or people who are not like me and study them, like Jane Goodall.

or, perhaps I'm just creepy?
