Reso does it for me with sheer technicality and creativity but i also love the vibe of his tunes, that sort of.. 'I watch a lot of violent Anime vibe.'. Hehe. I can see why a lot of Dub purists aren't as into him though 'cos its not exactly what you'd call dub..

I am a bit of a Sucker for Neuro influenced Dubstep tbh..

Burial for originality and emotional weight, sick producer.

Hitler was popular for a while, but that didn't make him good. To me, Chase & Status are beneath contempt, but that is another story

Hard to say. I think too much dubstep falls into the "generic" folder, sounding too much like everything else. I think Pangaea has some cool shit, Untold has some pretty good stuff, Martyn is ace, the Mount Kimbie EP is the most experimental of dubstep I've heard (if you can even call it dubstep) and fucking ace, Shackleton and Appleblim obviously. If you can call Mount Kimbie dubstep, they got my vote, as it's playful and fresh (unlike sooooo many other producers out there).

As much as people want to discount Skream, he really is the face of Dubstep to many. His tunes have chronicled what is happening with the sound on the dance floor for a long while.

To agree with a point that a few others have brought up, I don't think there is a way to pick 1 best ever. Due to the diversity of the sound I'd have to pick several people, but my list would be huge because I like all of the flavors that Dubstep has to offer. El-B would be at the top of my list though - he was one of my favorite Garage producers, and his new stuff is sounding really current & fresh with obvious Dubstep vibes & tie-ins, but a great throwback to Garage at the same time.

I dunno i'd say the greatest dubstep producers aren't those who can just make you pull the most contorted bass face.
Like when i first heard attack of the killer bass freaks i was like it just was like a light switch went off in my head, that id been waiting all this time to hear those sounds. BUT i wouldnt say that effect lasts, you just go on searchin for the next big tune.

However, every time i hear Ruckspin and Quark - sunshine it moves me just as much, if not more, than the first time i heard it.
Same with Clouds - Shallow
Same with Bass Clef - Clapton Deep

Like i know as soon as i post this ill think of other artists that i would have said, but my point is is that imo the 'great' artists of the dubstep era will be those that pushed the boundaries of the sound, not just those who made the grimiest tunes -
Just for the sake of debate, that would mean for me that reso, bar 9 perhaps shouldnt be considered and more the types like Mala, Toasty, and Bass Clef. I think The widdler is a real anomaly in this discussion as in i dont think he falls easily into any category which i suppose makes him great anyway!

Personally LOVE horsepower's stuff but I find its more of a "they needed to do it to shape the scene to what it is" more than.. "the most amazing thing even written within the scene" for me personally, don't get me wrong those old tracks are still personals to this day!

yeah i get what your sayin but i will always say that dubstep is the perfect word to describe horsepowers music the dub sound with the steppy beats, like say if you listen back to allstars v1 pretty much all the tunes on it have a dub influence, but now i think the only thing that now relates dubstep to dub is the cutting of dubplates, obviously there are still people maybe pushing that sound but i havent heard alot of it recently, i'm not sayin i don't like the new stuff just that the music has kind of lost its roots hench all this shit with people trying to split dubstep into sub genres

Yeah innit, completely, I came from the "step" more than the dub, one of those people who naturally progressed from being a 2stepper, so I didn't really like the "dub" side of dubstep, now people have seem to forgotten the "step" side a bit and I have gotten people adding me to AIM who have never listened to garage in their life, which is a bit of a shame as it was a great eara and listening back to allstars 1 and horsepower/artwork/el-b(even the el-tuff stuff smashes it for me, El-Tuff forever smashes it) is refreshing and makes me go back and do some dubSTEP instead of doing DUBstep..They deffo have the right blend in their music.
