This was amazing, the story isn't the best or anything but in 3D at the IMAX it's absolutely stunning
Imagine it would be. Went to see it in the cinema. It lays on the "emotional stuff to make you care about sandra bullock's character" a bit too much and that ending shot is mad corny but still the portrayal of being in space is amazing. It's so well shot, the sound is incredible and I watched the whole thing wondering how the hell they filmed it. Worth it for the immerse experience aspect of the film. One for the cinema definitely. Not for the plot so much.

Gravity is by far the worst movie I've ever spent money on. Sandra Bullock and whoever wrote the script should be put down.

fx are stunning, yeah, but they don't make up for how hard this flick sucks in every other aspect. the dialogues are annoying and some of the worst I've ever heard or read. I can say without lying that I've seen porn with better conversations in them. the scene where Bullock howls like a dog? fuck me that was some of the worst acting someone has ever been paid for.
also little downs for stating how there aren't any sonic waves in space yet still using audio effects for tools and crashes etc.

and don't get me started on the "story" itself

Pretty much this. I went to see it in the Imax too.

The opening 10/15 minutes or so are great, the initial shot of her spinning away is amazing, proper disorientating. Could see people getting physically uncomfortable all over the cinema.

The rest..... The plot is average to shit at best. After the initial incident its basically her being shit at doing anything. Shoe horned in backstory for Bullock's character & she's nowhere near strong enough an actress to hold down that much of the film on her own. All the rebirth/attached/detached/letting go of whatever symbolism felt forced and unnecessary. + her amazing ability to decipher Russian & Chinese when the moment required it :?

TLDR: Watch Alien again instead

I didn't hate it at all. I thought the experience of it visually, atmospherically, the portrayal of being in space and the tension it created were great.

It just forced way too much of the emotional crap to make us care about Sandra Bullock's character making that aspect really cheesy. But I didn't care that much still. I mean if I watch a trashy slasher I'm not going to be complaining that the dialogue is too shallow if the scenes with the killer are good and the effects are creative.

Similar sort of thing here. The characters weren't unlikable or anything, just that aspect of the movie was what let it down hugely. I would still tell people to go see it, just only on a big cinema screen with good sound and the 3d and everything

I guess it really depends on what you are looking for: CGI/general tech demonstration vs. actual movie. This production would have been much more entertaining if there wouldn't have been ANY talking or ANY story - just 90min of that "floating in space" shit.
regarding alien - Weaver would've been a MUCH better pick for the female role.

Yeah but it doesn't stop Alien form having nothing in common with the film really.

also "actual movie" is a pointless term to use. I don't see why the visual side of it doesn't count as "actual movie" just dialogue and character development. Pretty narrow definition to be honest. Besides it's not just that it looks good. The survival type scenes are tense as fuck. It makes for an exciting experience. Yeah I would like less of a focus on the characters as well all you care about is watching someone try to survive in space so the emotional stuff isn't needed at all. Just floating in space for 90 minutes would be stupid though as then there's nothing exciting happening.

I mean I have loads of kung fu movies that are awful on the dialogue. The plot is the most generic crap ever and the characters are one dimensional but the movie is still an enjoyable watch as the point is the action scenes. They are entertaining/exciting and well crafted creative scenes which is what you want in one of those films.

I'm not saying Gravity is amazing. Just it's got enough going for it to make it an enjoyable watch regardless of its flaws.
