i'd place a bet that the OP probably likes juke now anyway tbh

one of my favourite threads on DSF, manages to avoid any bullshit and just has people posting good tunes :h:
:z:

if only there were more threads like this ^^

Am I the only one who finds the actual chicago stuff (spesh from the teklife gang) way to badly produced and uninspiring?

Sure, some of it is great but 90% of it is skippable, like Deejay Earl for instance.

I really like the stuff people are making who've came from other genres.

somewhat, yeah. but when listening to traxman's (eps, not the lp) or spinn's stuff, I really appreciate the roughness. just sounds functional and not as egoistic as most recent dubstep, for example. people are providing tools for the dance, not trying to outproduce the others.

this said, a lot of tunes get boring after four bars.

its the same sorta reasons for hype that oldschool grime has, where its not like the tunes are technically great but still they seem to have a very raw energy to them

another similarity is how both old grime and old footwork werent genres of music made specifically for the music. old grime was made for MC's and old footwork was made for dancers, so like jurk said there was never a problem of producers trying to make the sickest bangers or whatever, cos the producers weren't the focal point of the scene

Oh I get it completely, in a dance I would be skanking out proper !

It just stops me getting invested heavily into the genre because like Jurk said, a lot of tunes get boring after four bars.. Four bars at home and 4 bars in a dance is completely different! It certainly is pure party music (the 'original' sound) but with the success wouldn't you thought the producers would step it up?

I just mean, they've used the same 808 kit in every track, slightly different pads and just created new rhythms. I don't understand how this stuff is getting wax releases on big labels.

Its like those techno records what are just 1 bar with an infinite loop on the record, I ain't paying fucking 8 quid for a 1 bar loop!

I think Nonfuture's sound of that juke/jungle is the perfect blend of both, its technically excellent but is still 100% about the vibe. Its 'anywhere' music.

^ I would pitch that down to 145 and play it in a dubstep set without even thinking twice about it. would fit in nicely with some Geiom, Kode9, Martyn, 2562, maybe some early-ish Geeneus, TRG, Ramadanman tunes...

ahh

then yes, the problem is finding trax that aren't boring & overdone (like some entire albums (looking at traxman))

have to wade through a lot of shit to find gems

i have 1000+ footwork tunes & i RARELY buy an entire album/ep & only ever buy single trax

there is a very severe problem among the community of quantity >> quality

I know what the topic is saying. Footwork does get a little repetitive however I'm feeling the jungle orientated tunes
