Yup, gotta start completely from square one. I got online yesterday, but didn't make it past the 1st mission "tutorial". My money showed like 8k in the bank, 2 k on my person but it could have easily been a glitch so I dunno if they start you with zero cash or a little bit. I know they start you with a pistol at least lol
Lastest online update:
Last Updated 4:30 PM ET 10/2/13: Here are the latest updates as of this afternoon.
•For PlayStation 3 users, a PlayStation Network server issue was detected that was limiting the amount of possible concurrent users. This was preventing most players from accessing GTA Online altogether and as of this morning, that problem was resolved.
•There is an issue that is preventing some players from getting through the first tutorial mission across both platforms. Many players have been able to get through this with repeated retries, and we are working on unblocking this for everyone as soon as possible.
•This morning, we experienced some instability across the GTA Online services which is affecting even people who have progressed beyond the tutorial mission. We are identifying these issues now and are working to restore stability for users as soon as possible.
•For the time being and until we have been able to get everybody access to GTA Online and things are running smoothly, we have disabled the option of purchasable GTA$ cash packs. Players can however keep on earning GTA$ by pulling off Jobs and other profitable gameplay activities rather than purchasing cash packs.

Sorry for the possibly obvious question but when you enter online, how does it choose which 16 people are in your session? Do you have to pre-arrange a game with your mates or can you just enter the world and get on with it?
I really need my fucking internet connection.

I can imagine its just like COD or any of those shooting games, you go into a lobby and go with random people or you can choose to be part of a team with your PS/XBOX friends

If you load straight into online from the initial loading screen then I'm not sure what kind of game it sticks you in, more than likely some random server anyone can get into. If you go into the story mode and then go to the pause menu and go to online you can choose to start a solo game where no one can join, a regular game where anyone can join, and you can also start a invite-only game. So you can pre-arrange a game or just jump right in with randoms

Yea, it's quite unfortunate. R* is saying it's their way of giving players the ability to short-cut farming money once you have enough ranks to buy an apartment or expensive car/gun. I think the largest xfer you can do is $20 for like 1.25 or 1.5 million GTA$
Luckily you can't just buy your way to having everything, still gotta be high enough rank to get certain things

really? this ruins a game for me :s already paid for it now it gives unfair advantages to everyone who's willing to pay more? yeah fuck off

Honestly, it's not as bad as some other free to play games I've played where you pay to win. Just bc you have the money to buy a $400k apartment doesn't mean you can, still have to be high enough rank (level) to unlock the apartment to buy it, and you can't buy ranks. Other than that, the only unfair advantage it provides is giving low level characters the ability to never run out of ammo. I'll personally never spend a dime of real money on GTA$

Pretty much, I've heard xbox users are having a better time with getting in than PS3 users. However they're still having major issues. To my understanding, it works more smooth if you launch a solo game

finally i get to play online & the first thing they tell u to do i knock off a gas station
now i see every single gas station i go to is "closed" because theyve already been robbed...

Should only be closed for like an hour. I believe 24 hours in game is something like 48 real minutes. Don't quote me on it, but I think after 24 in game hours the stores reset for you to rob again

this is absolutely false, it doesn't do that, you need to actually play and earn XP to unlock certain things, you cant get ahead in the game by paying money, you can just spend your money on things to buy depending what's unlocked for you at that time... learn the facts before u get ur man thong in a twist

Well a garage or apartment wont really help you, and no matter how flash your car is you still have to be able to drive it.
I dont really take the MP very seriously right now though, when it actually works..
