Good old smug MPs, no doubt thinking they have saved the day, well in London anyway. But What happens when the 10000 extra police go home? When will they actually tackle the root cause of this?

I was reading wikipedia about previous riots in UK and USA and they all seem to follow a pattern of stopping after 4-5 days.None went on for longer than that really.

I come from a shitty neighbourhood and am a college dropout,it's still no excuse to go out and lash out at society/local community.

Someone mentioned 2000 people marched on the met last month,it really is a shame that this wasn't given any column inches in the paper as it's this kind of proactivism and peaceful protests we need, not berks smashing up game for a free playstation.
I've seen a lot of people saying that these youths have been sidelined by their own society, but id wager most of them sidelined themselves.

I did mean it will happen again in months/years to come, when these youbs are ten years older, and a hell of a lot more cynical. lets just see what the tory shower of shit is going to do in reaction to it.

That number of deaths from rubber bullets is shocking. I'm suprised they're even contemplating it.

What a dumb bitch. Ten points to Gryffindor for that guy. The international atmosphere is getting pretty tense these past (and future) few years
Obviously i dont watch really ANY BBC news, but from some of the clips ive seen posted in SNH (on various topics) all of the reporters/anchors always seem SOOOO biased. They always sound like they're a news team hired by the police, like they dont see the common persons point of view, only to blame others. Wtf is up with that?

Alright, true. Ill add to my comment that it always seems the reporters are completely talking down to anyone who is supporting anything other than "the police are right". They always seem like theyre trying to accuse people of things.

This.

So am I the common person, or are the looters the common person or who?? You want all the reporters to be giving the looters high fives and saying fuck the government??

Like looting and arson and general violence and illegal behaviour?

No, it just seems crazy biased, like theyre trying to make an example of somebody. He says he's not shocked what happened and she immediately asks if that means he condones it. Its a stupid question. Things like that. I know thats just one example, but still.

its supposed to be completely impartial.
however wrong the situation is, they should stay impartial, they seem to be forcing opinion...

It seems actual rubber rounds have been phased out as they're too dangerous with ricochets and things. Apparently now they're using plastic bullets.

"From 1973 to 1981, over 42,000 plastic bullets were fired in Northern Ireland. Fourteen people were killed by plastic bullet impacts, including nine children. Most of the deaths were allegedly[12][13][14] caused by the British security services misusing the weapon, firing at close range and at chest or head level rather than targeting below the waist."

Granted 14 out of 42,000 is a pretty good ratio. But that's still 14 people killed by something that's touted as non-lethal.
Looks like they're designed to be shot below the waist or at limbs.. wouldn't want to catch one in the jewels.

Don't know if they're deploying bean-bag rounds or not.
"Bean bag rounds have caused around a death a year since their introduction in the U.S.[2]"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plastic_bullets
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bean_bag_round

I wonder how well those 16000 cops are trained in their use.

and that reporter is shocking. Blatant they have an agenda when she comes out with that "Weren't YOU involved in riots?" line.

Yeah, but people have deliberately posted videos like that one where there was mistakes or bias or arguments, its a 24 hour news station so there are bound to be some mistakes or reporters being biased- I'd say by and large it is reasonably impartial....more than sky news anyway (the other 24 hour news channel here).

I'd say Darcus was being a bit of a knob there too (he isn't just 'man in the street' he is a writer and journalist), he seemed to be getting angry and playing race and age when these protests aren't really anything specifically racial.

par, massively disagree with that comment, these are dickhead kids, most are younger than 18 and all have a choice. Like someone said earlier, they have sidelined themselves, there are many people from impoverished backgrounds who find and make their own opportunities, you can't use that as an excuse to go looting, stealing and vandalising peoples property.
"if anything they're heroes" is one of the stupidest things I have read in the last 4 days. They are young, easily led idiots in packs. They aren't standing up to a government, most of them have no fucking clue about their government and couldn't give 2 shits. The kids that do should understand that this is not how you get your way, sure you'll be heard but probably for the wrong reasons.
It is a shame that a non-violent march by black youths on Scotland Yard got less attention than this but if you don't get much attention you keep plugging away, you keep working hard for your cause. You don't lash out at the very society you feel excluded from or you make things worse. There are of course different types of rioter but the idiots have no clue and the clued up should know better.
I'd put a fiver on this being over by Sunday.
