I just don't get why you're calling Scorsese's movies awful. And definitely not if you're naming his best movies as examples. Taxi Driver (this is imo his best movie), Goodfellas, Casino, The Aviator, The Departed and even Shutter Island are one of the best things i've ever see. And then there's still another great movie coming and that's The Wolf of Wall Street.

Even when having a discussion with a mate about how bad I thought Scorsese was, aswell as raging bull, mean streets and taxi driver but tried to rewatch goodfellas and it was unbearable. Haven't dared watching any of the others again because I'm 'afraid' it will taint them. Ray Liotta is really bad in it  .
wow, really?! Easily in my top favourite, all time.

C'mon, Joe Pesci is just terrifying throughout this film, unreal performance imo. Ray Liotta's great in it too.

Also, "good shot, what do you want from me?"
I love that scene. It is so genuine when Liotta and De Niro are cracking up then horrified.

I would have to cite Scorcese's input to Boardwalk Empire too as a more modern effort from him.

If you liked that then definitely check out Takeshi Kitano's other stuff. Like, for real - badman films!
was he the guy who played himself in battle royale?

lol I bigged you up by mistake :D

But hey, you misunderstood. I meant I have a good impression of his older work like taxi driver, raging bull AND goodfellas but I rewatched Goodfellas and felt it was subpar to most of the other classic italian american gangster films. Like the untouchables, chinatown and godfarther (just examples - there's loads).
The departed is a lazy effort for a name like him, that can get anything financed. And imo both the aviator and especially shutter island are pretty tasteless mainstream fodder. Seriously the twist in shutter island - it's like what his face 6th sence, village, signs dude would've done. I think Leo is a horrible actor except for a few roles like Gilbert Grape and in Django, so that doesn't help Scorsese in my estimation. Check out mean streets if you haven't, it's Sorsese aswell.

If it's gangster films though there's a few korean and japanese gang films that are much more complex and gripping stories imo.

He's the main guy from Outrage, the headmaster in Battle Royal AND Takeshi from Takeshi's Castle.

dem feels :i: :i: :i: snatched a screener cus i couldnt wait but i'll go see it in the cinema when it comes out

Edit: also went to see 12 years a slave

Totally underwhelmed. It doesn't come close to Hunger & Shame and although I like McQueen's style this is just a guilt movie, might as well've made another holocaust blockbuster. And the fact that Giamatti only has 4 lines in the film infuriates me !!!!! Goddamnit hollywood give him more big roles !!!!!

Watched Barton Fink last night, didn't realise til the credits at the end that it was Coen brothers.. it was pretty good, ending was very forgettable though.

I would advise to see it for yourself but yeah, from McQueen I was expecting something more than "slavery is bad but hopefully Brad Pitt can save you". Fassbender is great in his role but then again, his role doesn't amount to much :| I fail to see more to it than an award bait

Inside Llewyn Davis was great, its a shame that the spanish voices were so bad. Some hilarious moments and a pretty interesting ending

Watched this last night.

Exactly what I was expecting last night, utterly ridiculous and stupid but funny and entertaining as hell. Tons of violence, stupid kills and cheesy lines, just what I wanted from it!

Think I'll watch Death Proof tonight, the other film in the "Grindhouse" double, hope it's just as entertaining.
