But not everyone out there is like that. Stop treating these people like scum, if anything, they're heroes. They're standing up to a government that is out of touch with the people they're governing. Politicians are out on vacation in Italy and meanwhile these kids can't find a job, they can't get a decent education, they can't pay for a house of their own. Two months ago over 2000 black youths peacefully marched to Scotland Yard, but you didn't see any coverage on that. The people are frustrated, and have every right to be."

Someone in the comments.
well said mate!
par, massively disagree with that comment, these are dickhead kids, most are younger than 18 and all have a choice. Like someone said earlier, they have sidelined themselves, there are many people from impoverished backgrounds who find and make their own opportunities, you can't use that as an excuse to go looting, stealing and vandalising peoples property.
"if anything they're heroes" is one of the stupidest things I have read in the last 4 days. They are young, easily led idiots in packs. They aren't standing up to a government, most of them have no fucking clue about their government and couldn't give 2 shits. The kids that do should understand that this is not how you get your way, sure you'll be heard but probably for the wrong reasons.
It is a shame that a non-violent march by black youths on Scotland Yard got less attention than this but if you don't get much attention you keep plugging away, you keep working hard for your cause. You don't lash out at the very society you feel excluded from or you make things worse. There are of course different types of rioter but the idiots have no clue and the clued up should know better.
I'd put a fiver on this being over by Sunday.

Moment for pure jokes.

Are they the exact words Cameron used when talking about Libya?

Me too. These is no passion in the hearts of the people on the streets, they are not fighting for a cause.... and all the electrical stores are out of stock.

I wouldn't be so complacent about that, weren't there riots in Sydney a few years back?

1044: An anonymous police officer in Surrey

e-mails: The UK will continue to be under siege from the mindless violence until something changes in the way we police this country. When my granddad was a police officer in the 1940s he was feared by those who broke laws. He acted professionally and upheld the law, but did not have worry about trial by media if used force to restore order. Every use of force by a police officer in the UK has to be documented and justified. Many officers will not use the force necessary to restore order as they fear for their jobs and liberty! The interview with the two teenage girls on Monday shows this really well where they state 'we are showing the police we can do what we want!' The yobs and looters need something to fear [the police] or they will continue their reign of terror on the law abiding community.

this is proof of how MINDBOGGLINGLY STUPID people really are. Mind you this is a POLICE OFFICER, who's supposed to be somewhat educated. People who make such claims are not smarter than those MINDLESS THUGS running amok.

How can you honestly compare 1940 with today ON ANY serious level? Are we going to go back to the dark ages? As if police weren't corrupt back then? Racism widespread? I can simply not believe some of the stupidity I'm reading....

The fact hes from surrey says it all. lots of closet racists ad daily mail readers, i know, i live there, and have done for a long time.
i used to be exactly like them, until i grew up.

We now have people seeing the EDL on the streets and saying "good on em"

That is something we never want to hear, but the general public are siding with them. Darker days are ahead, mark my words.

They were in an indigenous suburb and it was due to a number of factors, we don't have huge unemployment and a conservative government, we also have it very well, even the poor have it A LOT better than in the UK.

As far as I can tell, kids might have been listening to rap music, which would obviously explain everything.

The demographic spread of people appearing in court because of this is... surprising.

31 year old female teacher? Graphic designer? WTF?!

pretty much :P

we have a shitload of industry, that's the difference, and because Australia is huge there's jobs easily available all the time. Real issues aren't talked about, our country is caught up with populist politics ie. immigrants coming by boats (it's not a problem compared to everywhere else), and things like the carbon tax which is a move to an emissions trading scheme. Not real problems, a lot people lack perspective and are ignorant here, and educated people head elsewhere. In saying that, as i've said, we have it pretty darn good here (living standards across the board).
