American Hustle.

Incredibly boring, predictable, tedious. Can't fault the acting of the two leads though. 4/10.

Wolf of Wall Street

Had some good moments, one hour too long. Not particularly outstanding in any field but at least I had some fun watching it. 6/10

Watched Dallas Buyers Club last night and thought matthew mcconaughey performance was outstanding (not to mention jared leto). The way his character progressed through the film was great. 8/10

I agree with Joeki, American Hustle, I lost interest after the first 40 minutes 5/10. Wolf of Wall Street, as mentioned, too long but was entertaining none the least 7/10

Out of the Furnace, I thought it was okay but nothing to write home about. Woody Harrelson's character was pretty good. 6.5/10

Hunger Games

shameless americanized hollywood rip off of battle royale. characters not emotionally engaging in the slightest. badly written.

featured an incredibly attractive ginger lass, so boosted to 5/10 instead of the 4/10 it deserves

also theres a hilarious bit when a guy disguises himself as a rock lol

Most critics seem to disagree about The Wolf of Wall Street, it is rapidly approaching better
credits than Goodfellas.

Well not exactly, the basic premise of putting people into a dome to kill each other then sure but if you are basing everything you know about it off the first film/book then its not really like it atall.

Also I dont care that much about it, I just think people jump to that conclusion after seeing the first when there is a whole trilogy and the second film goes against pretty much everything in the first.

I think that has more to do with the 'click to rate' aspect of people coming out of a film screening and automatically rating it there and then on mobiles based on their first full blown cinema experience of it. Having seen the Wolf of Wall Street, personally I think it has no replay value whatsoever, especially being three hours long, I watch Goodfellas every time it's on TV, all the way through, even though I own it on DVD.

Duno what else is similar to BR but I haven't seen BR is yeeeears.

It might shock you – if you haven’t discovered this yourself – when I tell you that there is very little in common with The Hunger Games and Battle Royale. Their only real similarity between them is they’re both about kids killing each other. That’s it. They’re about as similar as Kick Ass and Super, The Prestige and The Illusionist, or A Bugs Life and Antz.
Im putting abit more effort then I should into trying to prove my point but really, meh. fair enough if you dont like them as Ive read neither BR or Hungergames (pretty sure its not finished as a book seriers yet?) Im hardly an expert.

I don't really think that's a great way to try and distinguish the two films...I mean, ants and bugs life? They are both about COLONIES OF ANTS that have to FIGHT OPPRESSION and OVERCOME ADVERSITY and LEARN TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES.
I can't remember much about the illusionist because it was so bad that I feel asleep and missed the last 20 minutes or something, but a CENTRAL PREMISE of both the illusionist and The Prestige is surely mystery, the unknown and "magic". Of course there are other things going on but these are pretty central themes. I don't know what Super is so I can't comment on that.

But really, when I was told about the hunger games, the very first thing I thought about was "Sounds like a massive Rip off of Battle Royale".

If you steal a central premise and then build slightly different plotlines and character development around that premise, it doesn't mean you didn't rip off the original premise. That's the way I see it. :dunce:

It's more than a stretch to assume that whoever wrote hunger games couldn't have come up with the concept without ever seeing BR.

I'd recommend both films.
