catching by being the bait still seems dumb though. if you're fishing in water with fish that big, there has to be big predators too. the chances of them biting you seems likely enough that i would never want to do it

i used to think it was really dumb too
but now that i have a pretty good understanding of the fish in most north american lakes/ponds its not really that scary

catfish that get that big are in really warm water, and are the only fish capable in that sort of environment to reach that size
its too warm for pikes/muskellunge & bass wouldn't try to bite you

still its a very hickish thing to do
