Was at a hardcore show last night, good night, but can someone explain to me what is achieved by hardcore dancing besides looking like a complete tnuc and ruining other people's enjoyment? Never understood it.

Watching the news last night and at mitt romney's rally they were all waving american flags and singing some profound song. Just really weirded me out- imagine a party leader trying to do that here..

it's fun, if it's ruining your enjoyment because you're getting hit then just stand slightly out of the way, if it's ruining your enjoyment just because you think it looks daft then grow up and stop caring about how others look.

used to have this same argument with my best mate:
"err hardcore dancers are gay and it looks stupid"
"chris... you don't listen to hardcore and you've never been to a hardcore show either, why does it bother you so much?"

May I ask who it was you went to see? Also, can I ask if the crowd were little fringe-sporting emo kids in skinny jeans or big, adidas wearing, scary looking blokes with skinheads and sovreign rings (i.e. proper hardcore heads) as this makes a big difference

Its not even dancing though, its just thrashing your body around like you're having a seizure. Really dont see the appeal..

I can only see this being a problem for you if you regularly go to hardcore shows, if not then don't worry about it as it should have no bearing on your life at all

Saw Every Time I Die last night, it was a mix of the two really, it's just annoying cos you can't get a normal pit that you would at a metal gig. Just really don't see the appeal of windmilling

It's not the aesthetics of the emos, it's their fucking windmilling and wild elbows that are the issues. The old school know how to behave in the pits and shit.

I thought someone would pick up on that, I only pointed that out as thats one of the bigger divides in the hardcore scene and often the attitudes and behaviours of the crowds can be radically different either side of this divide (kinda like the difference between going to System and going to a UKF night), lord knows i don't dress like a "proper" hardcore head either, I'm probably closer in appearance to the emo fringe brigade but I generally find the adidas wearing, chavvy looking hardcore crowd to be a better bunch and the shows are a lot more exciting too

Hmmmm... I like do really ETID but I find their style of hardcore isn't very beatdown driven so windmilling at one of their shows would seem a bit out of place to me, however if you go see a band like Prowler or Bun Dem Out at a tiny little venue it'd make more sense for people to start windmilling, spin-kicking and cartwheeling their way around the whole venue, all about context innit

I have no issues with windmilling or elbows tbh, if anything there's more of it amongst the older Adidas/Fred Perry wearing hardcore crowd (in london at least) the main difference is that the emo kids seem to have less respect for eachother on the dancefloor and less pit etiquette, for example generally you're supposed to make some sort of signal (usually a single clap) before you start windmilling so that people know to get out of the way, the emo bunch don't do this
