Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
I think he means use his own samples with Impulse and Drum Racks - yes you can. Just drag the samples to the slots.
The hot-swap button of Impulse is in the bottom right-hand corner of each sample pad.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
When you click it, you can "hot swap" samples from your sample browser. This means you can preview other sounds/presets in action with just one click.
Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
yeah, exactly. but nevermind, i figured out that one alreadygoodeh wrote:i dont use the hot swap function, i havnt been bothered to figured it out
when you say drum machine, do you mean a drum rack with for example, an 808 kit loaded? or do you mean something else?

still struggling with the samples though, can i use samples that didn't come with the program? how?

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
You just browse to them via Ableton Live's browser and use them the same way you would use Live's samples.

Hi
Iv been using Ableton for a few months and iv just realized i dont know what the f--k session view does.
It just looks confusing because you can't see anything except blocks.
Am i missing out by not using it ?
Can someone give me a rundown of it
Cheers

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
people should really be doing the in-built tutorials that come with ableton, they're really easy to get into and explain quite a lot. definitely wouldn't have any "what does the session view do" questions if you had of done them.
Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
I am currently running Ableton on a Mac, I am also running FL Studios an old Toshiba. Will there be any problem taking audio from one to the other?
On a side note, I am considering Bootcamp, because the toshiba sucks and im positve Fl would run much faster natively on my mac, which has 4gigs of ram as opposed the toshiba running on one gig and being filled with all sorts of crap my old school put on there

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
shouldn't be any problems exporting audio from one to the other, careful with warp settings when bringing audio into ableton.
ABLETON only one channel???!
Hey everyone. Been getting into mixing more lately so I can actually start performing on stage as well. Everyone pretty much knows how to use Traktor. It's quite simple really and I was wondering if I should stick with that or try using Ableton. I heard Ableton can be VERY flexible and allow a lot more to happen at once. I also produce with Abelton so it would allow me to get creative more even with my own tracks, drum loops, etc.
But I had a problem when messing around with Ableton on my buddy's DJM700. We were use to hooking up the DJM to traktor of course. Putting deck A on one channel, and deck B on the other while cross fading between the two and using the Traktor Kontroller. Well, when we tried to do this same technique with Ableton, we coudln't figure it out. For some reason, after setting up my Ableton template with a deck a and b interface, we couldn't figure out how to put deck A on channel one, and deck B on channel 2 through Ableton. If this is possible, I can do SO much stuff with Ableton. But when we started playing, both "decks" were running through channel one on the DJM not allowing us to crossfade, change decks, etc.
Now sorry if i'm talking like a noob, but i've just been getting into the whole DJ process. My buddy knows all the details of the equipment and wut not. But is Ableton set up to where you can ONLY use one channel for some reason? I've noticed (just a few to name) that producers like Bassnectar, Skrillex and Deadmau5 seem to be using Midi controllers MAINLY. Instead of them using a DJM as their master, they seem to be pounding away on their midi controllers instead of the actual mixer. The DJM seems to just sit off on the side taking all the aduio and allowing for a few effects here and there. Is this the only way Ableton is set up to use?
I guess the idea of using mainly a controller could be cool, but I feel like having 2 channels opens up a whole new spectrum for Ableton. PLEASE tell me i'm doing something wrong because I love Ableton but if you can only use a controller and one channel that's fucking pointless. Producing in Ableton is amazing, but if that's the case i'll stick to Traktor for the spinning!

Re: ABLETON only one channel???!
As far as I know, ableton djing is basically activating the different scenes in the live view but i cant really expand on that as im a cdj or vdj kind of guy.
Re: ABLETON only one channel???!
Just youtube it.
You're supposed to have 4 channels. 2 for a playlist and 2 for deck a and b. But I reckon you can do it how ever you like.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
yeah i think you've just missed where the crossfader is and the options to have certain channels of either side of it.
Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
Hey, so I'm finally getting into djing/live pa with Ableton and I have one quick question about outputs. When I started in Virtual DJ, I was able to use my Line 6 interface for the main out, and also send the cue to my Macbooks headphone port. Is it possible to do the same in Live?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Ableton MIDI clip keeps missing notes. Help ?
Hi
Iv got drum rack MIDI clip playing my drums in Ableton but it keeps missing out my kick drum when its playing.
Its weird because it may skip a certain kick in the clip, but if i play it again it will play that kick and skip another
Does anyone know what the problem could be ?
Iv checked and the velocity for all the kicks are at 100%
Thanks

What about their start points? Are they within the midi clips borders?

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
pic of the pattern and channel of the kick within the rack?
Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
Yes, what he ^ said. A pic would help. As much info as you can give. Alternately, you could load each drum hit into it's own sampler and do it that way (that's how I do it)
As for my own question: what would be the best way of lining up two samples so that they're in time with each other? For example: ive got an instrumental of an old r&b song I wanna layer up with the amen break just to screw around with. I know live can detect tempos of samples, but how do I get them to be in time with one another? I know about warping, but alot of the time I end up making samples sound really sloppy by warping them. Is there a DAW that does this in a more efficient way? Or should I just slice up the instrumental so each cord begins at the start of a bar, etc?
