I've seen an interview of Haneke where he said if he could change the past he wouldn't have made that film bcuz ppl saw it as entertainment and embraced the violence whereas he wanted them to feel uncomfortable.

Presumably this interview was after he made the film again as Funny Games US?

imo it was pop and he tried to defend it until he became a much better director.

True, but it's more about the editing and what the producers tend to want to pry out of the recording stage. I'm sure he had a lot of heads interfering, maybe because they funded it or it was supposed to be aimed at a broader age group to make as much money as possibleetc .

It's almost a given wih directors of this sort of nature, that they have to have a break out piece and then they get to work the way they want later on.

the violence is a present topic in the majority of his films though. A similar thing happened with Clockwork Orange when you see football hooligans using it as their image.
and pls add spoilers m8s

dont understand how anybody could embrace the scene in which the woman is dragging in the floor for 5 minutes suffering and crying i think i haven't been so uncomfortable in any film

diego that bit was very good, loved how real that whole sequence felt. That was classic haneke, leaving it observational and showing exactly how the parents would react.

What really pissed me off was how the killers came back; from that point it turned fro. a possibly very good movie to some cliche bullshit. I was hoping to see more of how the parents cope etc. Cos like you said that reaction scene was powerful

It's grim and has haunted me for years tbh.
It ticks all the boxes funny games should have.
But I can't recommend it, eventhough I would recommend not reading about it before hand if you decide to watch it. Again very dark, but it does leave an impression, that's for sure.

Martyrs is pretty good. Nasty to the point it actually becomes depressing but a good film.

Has anyone seen Calvary yet ? film about a priest getting into trouble. From what I've gathered it's GOTY english film, starring Brendan Gleeson and Kelly Reilly ( :U: )

seven psycopaths is pretty entertaining tarantino copy film until the second half in wich the film becomes boring and pretentious

I loved it, but it's probably because of my very strong Sam Rockwell bias
