Well i mean the producers who were smashing it have moved on to concentrating other things (mainly house) too quickly compared to its potential, n hyperdub camp seem more interested in footwork/juke/trap.

funky was massive for 6 months then completely died. the nights in london that were playing funky back then are playing afrobeats now lets be honest

Well there's a balance right. I don't wan't a boring dungeon version of funky, but I like tunes to have a little bit of edge, and tbh certain funky reminds me of really cheesy latin electro house stuff.

I'd say the label 'UK funky' didn't really stick but the music is still floating about. Its not as pure funky as the crazy cousins stuff but funky is definitely still around, I'm sure Blackdown said the stuff they push (now commonly known as 130) has a massive funky influence.
Guys like Champion and Lil Silva have stuck with the sound.
Certainly a case of the name dying out rather than the music imo.

it does have a massive funky influence but it doesn't really sound anything like the crazy cousinz stuff youre right
i kind of miss that sound though, i dont think it was really explored enough and afrobeats is a little bit too poppy even compared to some of the proper bait funky
interestingly i seem to remember champioin saying he doesn't make funky he makes grime in an interview.
lil silva is still carrying the funky flame from what i've heard though. the last lil silva record i bought was definitely funky but that was 2 years ago

Really? I've always seen him as part of the grime scene but his stuffs always seemed more funky than grime.. like everything theres always crossovers though.
