but its not an eye for an eye because you are exchanging a new vinyl that you bought for very little with one that is worth a lot. its a cynical move

fair enough if this is why you got two but i doubt that is true in most cases

But the record that's worth a lot now was bought for very little as well so surely it's the same, I could hold on to my copy for a few years and then it would be worth a lot .....
I got a spare copy so i could play one out and batter it about a bit and still have a mint copy for the collection, I don't think I'll be playing it out much though so I have no need for the spare copy. Might as well let someone who missed out on one get it.

mate that logic is retarded....so ok, lets use my dude at the top as an example yeah? (by the way to the dude at the top this is not a slight against you whatsoever i just needed a quick example) i brought the lucifer/ruff lovin' vinyl for £5.99, he would've brought the stand/eden for £5.99. So now its 'worth' on discogs atm £35 because tanamushi and dubvendor artificially inflated the prices (deliberately mind you)...whilst the coki white's price has been deliberately inflated to around an average of £30-35, but somehow in your mind we would be getting one over him for trading. At the end of the day, both vinyls were brought for £6 and both are being traded for 0 profit.

just because some dickheads are demanding that price doesn't means it's "worth" that much. stand/eden goes for an average of 10 on discogs, while lucifer/ruff lovin wasn't even sold there yet. there's a guy selling it for 1000,-. does that make it worth that much.
i agree with the point you're making though, but people need to realize that there's a huge difference between ridiculous offers on discogs and the prices the record is actually going for. just saying...

??????????????? that was the whole point of my post...check the last sentence where i say "At the end of the day, both vinyls were brought for £6 and both are being traded for 0 profit."
and people stop acting shook of a discussion. Its not going to get out of hand lol

that was not the point i was making. i was referring to the "current discogs offers = current value of the record"-mentality of some people. sorry if i misunderstood your post but i didn't see (and still don't) at which part of your comment you're getting at this issue.
/e:
to make it more clear:
i do think that a record can be worth more than what it was originally sold for. maybe that value can be defined by the prices the record is actually going for. but definately not by some stupid overpriced offers, when nobody actually pays that much.

yeah mate i think you've completely misunderstood my post (or maybe i didn't articulate it as well as i should've) because my point is exactly yours. You may have got hung up on the fact my example used prices that were exactly the same (i could've used the £1000 example or the prices listed by dubvendor and tanamushi but i thought there would be no point because they're joke prices and noone takes them seriously anyway). My whole point was basically that at the end of the day the vinyls were both brought for £6 regardless of the illusionary worth artificially created by some waste sellers and both parties know the history behind both records so noone in the end is trying to get one over the other. I ignored a lot of current prices for the records in my example, that should at least let you know I dont believe in "current discogs offers = current value of the record"

If you buy two copies and then within a week or two are looking to trade one then I would say you were clearly motivated to buy the second copy for this exact purpose for your own advantage. The same applies for people who keep it for longer hoping to make money but its harder to identify obviously.
I just think it is a shame that people miss out on getting vinyl they wanted and then either have to pay lots on discogs or exchange a rare vinyl of their own.
Anyway yeah back to buy/sell/trade shiz
