Escape Plan
Arnie and Stallone try and break out of a prison. Jim Caviezel chews scenery as a warden, Vinnie Jones says fuck a lot. 50 Cent, Vincent D'Onofrio and the bird that McNulty shacks up with The Wire are also in there. Also Sam Neill phones his part in.
Campy and terrible. Like a shitter less fun version of Fortress.

weird with sam neill
he is possibly one of the best actors of his time and has just settled on being sweaty and bored - but still like a luxury version of Beau Bridges

Thought this was okay, was pretty boring and thought they were just over-using technical science terms for the sake of it which added absolutely nothing to the plot.
I get that it was fairly low budget, but it felt like a pretty bog standard, ohhh space can be weird and creepy kinda film. Don't think they really knew what to do with the film once they actually landed on Europa

Need some interesting films to watch that I havent seen yet... hmm
Anyway
Wacthed this as I vaguely remember hearing the title somewhere. It was suuuuper cheesy Ito the point even my gf couldnt deal with it) and the main guy is basically a smug smamry tnuc for most of it, but it did slightly thaw my cold icey dead heart at points.

At first I was tempted to say not as good as Animal Kingdom, but then after letting it sink in a bit, it was a damn good movie! Pattinson was unconvincing (but it could have been worse) but I'm really a big fan of Guy Pierce (except for his Blasphemous inclusion in Brometheus). It's no mad max copy either, far from it. I've seen so many good Australian movies recently (Van Diemen's Land and Snowtown being the absolute winners). Not perfect, but all in all one of the better bits I've seen this year along with Nebraska (technically 2013) and Locke.
I'm a fan of Aninmal Kingdom, although I think Jackie Weavers performance is overrated. After just watching Snowtown I think it's even better, definitely one of the best Aussies films I've seen. I don't find many good ones either so I've got The Rover and Van Dieman's Land ready.

Reservation Road (2007)
Basically 90 minutes of Joaquin Phoenix with a "Why me?" look on his sad face and Jennifer Connelly failing to get across what her character is actually feeling. Had high hopes from the cast, but it was utter meh.

Synecdoche New York - amazing but thoroughly depressing, PSH is standardly brilliant. felt a bit long by the end though
Silent Running - watched it after reading about Trumbull bashing Kubrick for his SFX oscar, tbh this does not back him up much. Pretty shoddy direction, the fx have nothing on 2001 and the story is too short for over 90 min runtime. Also, the 70s eco hippy message is ridiculously ott
Primer - Heard loads about it, ended up watching it 3 times in 2 days to get my head round it. brutal but great, can't believe it was made for $7000
gona watch Enter the Void this week
