Or maybe temporarily sticky them?
Not a completely horrible idea. The alpaca could be like a symbol of quality

Yeah exactly, the alpaca stamp of approval

What if I punch a n00b in the head and shout at him for making the wrong kind of threads?

josh figured out, if you put a pic of a banjo string in spam threads, they tend to get locked pretty quick

Sinks to the bottom, OP would either naturally read the links or be the sort of bellend this place could do without, job done. It's more work for the mods.... but is it, really?

EZ
It can be as simple as this.
Perhaps have another mod to make it easier on Sharmaji.
Then with a touch of good sense and self-moderation from the users to avoid bumping redundant and troll threads everything will get better quickly.

I think you'd filter out a bunch of crap if you just set a cap so that members with under 50 posts aren't allowed to post new threads in the production sub forum. Extremely simple but effective imho, and easily reallised with a phpbb plugin. But they are able to participate in all threads off course.
You'd just get get a couple of people from the main board that don't read the stickies, but a lot less crap imho. And without the elitist "Advanced" board, wich i think is a shame because you will rule out new but educated people who know their stuff...

The right plugin would be this one I guess;
http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/p ... uirements/
Think it is also possible to only apply to the production subforum.

No this would be even more annoying - people will start posting for the sake of the post count.

Although I agree that this would propably happen, not all of them will do this. It's propably a lot less annoying then the thread garbage now... Right?

im still down for the idea of having another 'advanced' sub forum, being read only to members who have not been approved / have low post count / have joined for less then 2 weeks or something.
I don't see it as being elitist at all, but some quality control.
I also think there does need to be another mod to ease the strain on you good few! But maybe one from a regular user (thinking basic a, fstz, whyrez, abz) who can then have the access to lock (but not delete threads) just a lil bit more power to the people

Power scares me.
Give it to Deadly and Whyrez.

i think people are kind of thinking of this as some elite exile like most of the people wanting to do this are going to ignore this board too. personally the way i feel is everyone should be able to read it, but not any dick and jane post in it. it would be nice to have some conversations where you can have a steady conversation without having to break down basic fundamentals that should be covered on this board or can be found through a quick google.
i just think it would be a benefit as use the general production point and reference for starting off or asking those fundamental questions etc and honing your skills, then have a sep section where once you have that down can join and not have it bogged down with all the same.
hell the lifted sep subforum isn't as elite as most people seem to think, but the don't let in people with omg i've been producing 2 months and made this sick beat in either, they have a general production forum for that.
