sometimes i wonder if people think before they post...we all know timbaland didnnt create dubstep....but him sayin he did doesnt help all the people who u follow or listen 2 in dubstep...eny1 who has contributed or is a dedicated fan of the sound has the right to be angry at what he said full stop.

Its not a matter of us believing him or not because we know the TRUTH, but to other new comers etc its a major confusion especially if u come from a hip hop dominated back ground and i mean commercial side of it. even the article is proof of wot i say...if the interviewer had abit of knowledge about dubstep he wouldnt be able to allow that statement to come out in the article.

Also timbaland is more known and has more power in the music world than any dubstep producer u want to name....dont u think that has an influence in whats going on?...for example newcomers to dubstep thinking rusko ''pioneered'' the scene is ridiculous , and new producers who think all the sound is about is gritty distortion and wobbles...all this is down to lack of knowledge...and 4 some1 in his position 2 say he created the sound...thats a blatent act of deception.
dude its quite sadly ironic that you say "i wonder if people think before they post" because you clearly did not. go read the article again, and then read this thread again.

There's music made for the art's sake, and music made to make money. Dubstep is of the former, Timbaland is of the latter. I can respect the fact that people like some of his older tunes but in my opinion they are pretty uncompelling compared to the average dubstep beat.

What he does now is... well, I've already said a lot on the matter, but God forbid dubstep should ever come to that.

Timbaland could of been one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time. unfortunately he went down the pop route and all his shit sounds the same. if he retired tomorrow nobody would remember him in 5 years time.

Timbaland has always been "pop" (read: popular). But I really don't know what the hell he's been thinking the last few years.

Pop isn't a bad thing, it's just like all other music, some good some bad... I love Micheal Jackson, don't you? Hating on pop is such a silly way to be "underground" and "cool". Some of the best EDM tunes out there are filled with pop samples and/or influences

As for timbaland, the man and his fam (Aaliyah, Missy, geniuine, magoo, etc) created their sound and label from the ground up and changed hip hop just as Wu did. His impact is still rippling through a lot of genres to this day. I don't really care about what kind of person he is, I just like a lot of his art.

Anyone peep the girl unit fact mix? He uses a timbo beat perfectly

I disagree. MJ being one of a handful of exceptions, "Pop" is inherently unoriginal and follows pre-established formulas to produce an unoffensive sound that is easy for anybody to follow. Usually this means it is without risk and basically uninteresting to me as I like hearing real creativity that is unbounded by pop's many constraints.

And in many cases, Pop is in fact cheesy and non-genuine, because the ultimate motivation for production of said music is to make money -- integrity and originality be damned. Even if it means exploiting fads, people's weaknesses and/or urgency to belong to something, the profiteer only cares about $$$ at the end of the day.

Cheesy pop music might not be as overbearing in your everyday existence as it is in mine but it should bug any serious music fan that hundreds of millions of people are all into the same handful of artists at any given moment. There is more music available for the listening than ever, yet the amount of artists in mainstream rotation remain at about the same number as they did in the 1950s.

This is because advertising only works via repetition and basically brainwashing, and this is why "pop" music stations play the same 10-15 songs over and over and over and over for weeks, months, years on end, slowly rotating out other tracks for similar sounding new ones. The tracks themselves are usually quite repetitive and take advantage of current trends to make feel people comfortable by hearing something they are familiar with. They also mix well into commercials for minimal brain stimulation.

For ME (notice the preface), "Sexy Back" is 100% one of these tunes. I find this unforgiveable because I feel they are basically trying to hand me a shit sandwich whilst telling me its actually a rose... Just take a whiff of the artificial scent on top of this heap and you'll find life is easier... Cannot get into it, and makes me lose a whole lot of respect for the man.
