Last night was the first time I heard juke on a bigger system, I had faith in Juke being cool before but upon getting smacked in the chest by all those different rhythms at once...

Sentinels wrote:Thing is... when I look at it as a subculture I see something really exciting and fresh going on. It was the same with grime years ago, but back in then I also wanted to listen to the music in my car and in my bedroom etc. With Juke, I'd love to see people dancing live to it or maybe on youtube, but that is about it, and seeing as no one at my local club can dance to it or plays it that is a tough proposition. I took a juke mix on holiday to listen to by the pool and it just gave me a headache.
Really? Because I am completely and totally obsessed with the stuff and listening to it at home, at work, in the car... I've lost track of how many times I've listened to the µ-Ziq mix. That was my introduction to footwurk. I played the mix and then just started it over, I think 4 times. I couldn't fucking believe the shit.

@fractal "half-time juke" - that is the dark footwurk stuff that µ-Ziq is repping. Party juke is the stuff that's been around since the 90's and has a clap on 2 and 4. Footwurk tends to have a clap on 3, although they fuck with it a lot.

@fractal Is Bishop the producer on all these vids yer posting? if so why the hell isn't µ-Ziq on the case?!?!

As far as the dj roc album goes, i've heard it too and if you're into the sound you'll love it but it's not going to win any converts. People that don't get dj nate are not going to get turned around by the crack capone.
That µ-Ziq mix is interesting! Thanks for that, quite good!!

the same people who hate Juke are the same ones listening to chainsaw midrange basslines at 140bpm ^__________^

Juke is a chicago thing. you need to see the dancing, hear it one a proper system, etc.

its just like dubstep: you dont "get it" until youve been to a party and heard the sub thru some monster subwoofers...

Planet mu is on the more experimental side of things, and so is the DJ Nate stuff. Planet mu didn't just grab some run of the mill juke productions and start releasing juke, which they very easily could have. Instead they went and found a producer with motivation towards something similar to that of their labels vision, or at least that's what I see.

Also that comment on page 1 about juke being "double time hip hop" and a "stateside thing" is very unintelligent and insulting to juke, hip hop and all americans

@sentinels: Bishop is elusive, I've only had scattered myspace discussions at best. I think mu is on a different tip, his juke mix is aight

I think its sick those 808's bangin behind that the electronic percussion. Old sound new production skills sounds fresh!

I don't understand what you mean by "came out of dubstep"

Unless you mean you don't understand why it's becoming prevalent in some dubstep producers sound as of late? If that's the question, you know how it works, EDM takes it's influences from all sorts of places :)
