not many people can accept, even today, that queen victoria, one of the most famous monarch's was essentially.... german. the kaiser, the guy that was largely responsible for WW1 and killing hundreds of thousands of english troops....was queen victoria's grandson! so the fact is that british soul food runs deeper than battered fish and chips. its really a lot of weissbrod, schitzel and pints of warsteiner or becks.
I'd say the same goes for America and the USA in terms of us all being crossbreeds.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maps_of_Am ... ancestries Americans have a good deal of German ancestry in many areas too - not that that isnt ok..
of course. the english kicked in our heads for a long time, so by default most americans like to brush that history under the rug. the puritans from the mayflower were largely English protestants, with irish and other countries mixed in. you can imagine what effect that's had over 300 years.

Yes, agree.
TBH I don't think that even the racist fuckwits put too much stock in the idea of The British People as a race seperate from other white europeans...

Tea's a foreign import and is drank more widely than any other drink on earth. Tea is nothing to do with being British.

Agree with most of what you've said, but I think comparisons between different styles of cooking don't make much sense. It's always going to be as deep, complex, subtle or involved as you make it. I mean, Heston Blumenthal could probably spend three days making beans on toast...
Fair point but i was more referring to everyday cuisine as apposed to masterchefs. If you compare the average Italian or french dish to even a basic indian meal than the latter will usually be more complex.
