but if you consistently fight against the trends and mediums rather than working along with them, you're only contributing to the problem and are partially to blame yourself for lost profits and piracy

It's the artist right to make the decision to sell their works. Its your right to decide if its a fair price.

Downloading peoples music, liking it, then never paying the artist (if they decide to be compensated) is fucking wrong... At least with me.

I've seen so many weak ass excuses in this thread, to be a thief, it's borderline comical.

sad sad sad

why don't you share the pm conversation we've had?
i appreciate everyone who bought the cd as i saw some royalties
however when it comes to supporting the artist, buying it second hand with your arguments is laughably the same as people pirating, the only benefit is you get a hard copy

hell i appreciate anyone who enjoys my tunes why i toss some out to netlabels and for free on occasions
that and the commercial side minus fabric and my own releases have been shady as fuck and never seen a red cent from (cept for savory)

I bet if Distance comes on the board again, like last time, talking about how someone pirated his tracks and web ripped his myspace, you guys would be all "thats fucked up man.. people should support you.. blah blah".. just like last time.

I need to dig up that thread.

A question:

Before any means of distributing music became readily available(before the phonograph or whatever), why did people make music?

I know the thread is winding down(hence the petty arguing), but I think people need to consider that music was made and appreciated before musicians had easy ways of profiting off their work.

It's no secret that teh interwebz has fucked over the entire existing paradigm, but the question is are we going to re-adjust to the older paradigm, where art was made for the sake of art?

Is art going to stop being produced entirely once the profit margin hits zero?

Once that happens, at least no more ke$ha!

I understand it takes a while to read 7 pages in a thread... but it would help.

Well I comes back and the thread did surprisingly well for itself, made it to about page 3 before an argument so...well done!

I think with DH and bass hertz have a point to some extent but feel I'll probably go with DH on this one as I believe in making stuff freely available and then its up to the consumer and where to put their hard earned money. But I stick by the point that I think art can be valued without money, god knows I still buy a lot of films and music but without me downloading this before I had, I wouldn't of bought it in the first place. It was there for me to obtain, I then made my choice if it was worth my money.

Supporting underground music is definitely something I've always done, be it punk, crust and grindcore records, shirts or gigs I attend or EDM vinyl I purchase and raves I attend...but I know for definite that people in these scenes wouldn't of saw my money if it weren't for getting it off the internet.

Music should always be about the music, first and foremost.

Its simple really. I download everything from the lots of games to movies to music. Do I feel bad? Not really. I'm a broke college kid now with bills to pay so it leaves me very little left to spend on myself (and even my gf lol) but if its an artist I actually support and like... then I usually drop the $10 bucks for the album. Or the walmart $5 movie bin or whatever.
