I think its because a lot of people on this forum are just sheep following trends set by DJ's deemed to be "acceptable" or "cool" on this forum.
say no fucking more

Utter, utter bollocks.

I would happily listen to juke/house/funky at DMZ because I like it. I don't like midrange, tearout, screechy dubstep so I'm perfectly within my right to be disappointed if two musicians that I look up to (S+B) are playing it.

I think a lot of people on this forum don't understand the difference between disappointment and hate. And regardless, people are entitled to hate on stuff if they want to, hating doesn't make you some sort of tnuc. If you say you don't hate anything, be it music or anything else then you're a fucking liar.

And for the record I did walk out of Skream and Benga's set because I wasn't enjoying it at all. Went into Room 2 where Moxie was absolutely killing it. She played Girl Unit, Kode 9, Rustie, Rebound X, Digital Mystikz, old Skream... music that IMO is a million times better than Funtcase, Datsik and Doctor P.

I personally think it's amazing. Amazing that a genre which was largely unknown 5 years ago has evolved and diversified so much. People should be f*cking proud, not pissing on it!

Pathetic :corntard:

Besides I listened to the set and thought it was banging and diverse.

Waste.

I'm not gonna comment on that set knowing I would only throw oil on the fire, but I didn't feel it because I simply don't feel the music, this has nothing to do with the context or the place it was played'. Anyway, I don't want to lower the debate by bringing the ever-shining 'brostep' argument.

As Plastician has said before, they can play what they want and there is no set "rule" or "contract" to state that anyone playing at DMZ has to play the old-type stuff. If you did / didn't enjoy the set, then you are entitled to your own opinion. There is really no need for aguments in this thread at all.

big up 'stician for that spanner in the works, raised some good points.

I guess with the 130bpm/jukey kind of stuff, there's an element of "it's Loefah, it's his night, he can do what the fuck he wants". but then by the same note, the DMZ crew knew what they would be getting when they booked S&B so i suppose you can't support one and write off the other if you're supporting the DMZ booking/music policy.

without getting into the whole terrible "brostep" discussion yet again, that sound to many is a dumbing down of where dubstep came from, substituting vibes, musicality, passion etc for "MAKE IT FILTHY" to appeal to the moshers. but at the same time, while many may hate them, the moshers probably went home thinking that throwing themselves around and jumping on their mates constituted a "sick" night.

i guess dubstep has grown to the point now where a DMZ crowd can't be elitist and consider themselves the "real heads" when 2 godfathers of the scene are booked to play that sort of music.

Uhh..

"dmz aint about that style of music otherwise we'd have Doctor P, Datsik, Excision, Flux Pavilion and Cookie Monsta at every dmz."
"bullshit. i expect 95% of DJs on this forum could draw a better, more DMZ appropriate set than was played. but they don't have the profile, so aint gonna get booked."

imo that's you making an assumption as to what music those two posters would have preferred to have been played...they never explicitly said "why didn't they play they're or others old stuff"
slanguage wrote:also like someone has said...goth trad and vivek's set seems to be getting the highest ratings overall (deservedly so because it was amazing) and correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure all the songs they played either came out in 2010, are gonna come out this year or were dubplates so that whole 05/06 nostalgia argument is null and void imo...also, loefahs set got huge ratings and that sound is progressive too...so what point do people really have?

you quoted my post, but i never mentioned the old style.

dubstep isn't exclusively split down the middle between 2005 eyes-down tunes and horrible chainsaw jump up.

Anyone else thought about that DMZ also means demilitarized zone? Doesn't that mean that people should chill out instead of debating about these things?

Stician on point.

I also couldn't grasp the whole juke acceptance thing.

Think it takes a lot of different influences but very little is from dubstep.

I think it's pants compared to some good half time anyway.

Listening to their set right now, seems like a normal S&B show really from what they have done for the last while... Too bad considering the calibre of tunes they can pull from but its entirely up to them.
Though that raw dogz VIP is an abomination :cornlol:

I'd much rather be hearing more things about these sets people are going manic over!! I want a god damn Vivek vs Goth-Trad recording or Distance b2b Tunnidge.

Also Coki didn't drop any crazy new mentalist tracks it seems??

If no-one said that then what are people moaning about then? What's "DMZ type".. Ask the person in this thread who first said it. "Your argument is not null and void" - Uhh, it's what the whole thread is about you fool?
