Re: Skrillex's Computers/Hard Drives Stolen In Italy
that's a facebook question poll... it's the equivalent of:
"HEY! ARE YOU FIFTEEN AND FEEL THE NEED TO CONSTANTLY UTILIZE SOCIAL MEDIA?!?!! IF SO, CLICK ON THE FIRST NAMEs THAT YOU RECOGNIZE!"
the friend that you have that participated in the poll voted for everyone except Doc P and Skream... that's pretty weird.
also LOL at "92 more".... you know every kid with a laptop and a cracked copy of ableton added their name to that list

fwiw you're a good example of how a 18 year old can be well informed, rational, and not buying into whatever his friends say is good.Phigure wrote:I'm a senior in high school (i know), most people I know are still "kids"
Sorry if thats too tangential... i really have no problem with people dancing and getting fucked up to stupid club music. works out really great for those people who don't care what they are listening to.
It just drives me up the fucking wall that there are so many people dead set on turning dubstep into tearout dnb / clownstep.
THERE ARE SO MANY MEANINGLESS CLUB DANCE GENRES OUT THERE! just listen to your hip-pop or or electro or psytrance... dubstep was (at one point) the only EDM that had any artistic goals or merit. Why is it that as soon as anyone in america hears it their first reaction is "oh shit i want to make this into the new drumnbass or the new electro" just let it be what it is for fucks sake. It was a departure from all the club bangers and formula driven EDM that had preceeded it. Too many fucking assholes in america who want to hear the same old shit but with a new name.

Aside/ This is not far off from how the us news and world report college and grad rankings work, which to a large extent determines a school's value in our system. To the same effect, potentially. /End Asideknell wrote:IF SO, CLICK ON THE FIRST NAMEs THAT YOU RECOGNIZE!

I've always taken pride in the fact that I've always been more of an independent individual as far as music and other interests are concerned.
and I couldn't agree with you more. dubstep really pulled me in because it was so different from everything else. technically, yes, it's electronic dance music, but it really shouldn't be called that. besides being musically different, it was always much more organic, much more natural, and much more cerebral.
like you said, as soon as a few dumbasses got a hold of it, they decided that they needed to strip away everything that made it beautiful and just turn it into more of the same old, mindless trash. now the geniuses and innovators such as digital mystikz are thrown to the wayside, while tasteless, immature music from the likes of Doctor P and Skrillex is being revered and worshiped.
beyond frustrating. i don't give a fuck if people like it, but why did you have to murder dubstep and the name to do it... when you say dubstep now, people just think of "that annoying genre with all the wobbles" or "YEAH D00D FILTHY WUBBLEZ BRO, SKRILLEX IS A CHAMP". it's fucking embarrassing having to associate with that sort of thing, when in reality, "proper" dubstep is so very, very different.
"meditate on bassweight" vs. "d00d dat drop was so filthy on my skullcandy headphones that i shit my pants"
Re: Skrillex's Computers/Hard Drives Stolen In Italy
sorry for the drunk rant but
ulgh i got too drunk tonight... i was on beale street earlier yelling at the evangelicals promoting Jesus to the drunken masses....i just kept going up to these people and saying "stop lying! stop, you heretics! jesus died for your sins! jesus died for you so you need to respect him!"
clearly too much drink.
yeah exactly... and that facebook poll where skream comes in last... its just...what the fuck is wrong with people?Phigure wrote:

Re: Skrillex's Computers/Hard Drives Stolen In Italy
skream actually didn't come in last, there are like 100 more contenders underneath him, so at least he's in the top 10... but still it's shocking that one of the originators is labeled so low in pushing the "real" dubstep sound.pompende wrote: that facebook poll where skream comes in last... its just...what the fuck is wrong with people?
oh and we can all agree that phigure is awesome... to be honest it's weird for me to think of you as a high schooler

as pretentious and arrogant as this sounds, sometimes i feel really out of place among my demographic. not that i don't enjoy being with friends my age, but i've noticed that most of the time i can connect more easily with people a bit older.
