Does one tip drug dealers in the U.S?

Re: tipping bartenders
to get a basic tip, yes. but those kind of beers usually run $2-4, which would be very cheap considering i hear most basic pints in the UK are 4 pounds ($7) with plenty to tip and still be cheaper.wolf89 wrote:So you tip someone for just opening a bottle then? That's all they have to do to get a tip?
Re: tipping bartenders
No where I am a pint is £3 most places. You're thinking of London prices which are fucking extortionate.
Range between £2.60 and £3.50 for a full pint not a shitty little bottle.
Go somewhere studenty and you'll start getting deals on the bottles. Can get them for £1 somtimes. Moustrap (which is a shit place) will do a full pint of Carlsberg for £1 sometimes. Somewhere like that would never ever get a tip off me though anyway. Would be like tipping Mcdonalds.

Re: tipping bartenders
there are instances where not tipping would be acceptable, like if you're meeting friends and just take one beer from the bar and pay cash and go sit down with them.
but generally the idea is if you're using the bartender's service, you need to tip them.
and instead of just accepting another culture's customs, you seem to enjoy being fervently anti-tip.

Re: tipping bartenders
What? Don't you always just buy a beer and then go sit down?
Are the bar tenders actually coming over and serving you like a fucking waiter or something?

Re: tipping bartenders
tipping in the US has less to do with responding to supreme service than common courtesy.

Say I go weatherspoons. Chain pub. Beer not kept especially well. Impersonal service. Would never tip
I would only ever tip after a big night at a nice small place where the barman actually makes any difference. Even then it's unlikely less they've really been outstanding in any way.
Agreed. If an effort is made to actually connect with a customer, then a tip is deserved.
As for nightclubs, I don't find it's really the environment if you get what I mean? They are inevitably busy, I just want my drink and to return to my mates. If they count my change short (that is, if I even notice) I'll let them keep it.

Re: tipping bartenders
it depends, we have bartenders that will come to your table and take your order and bartenders that stand behind the bar and hand out drinks. the latter will be tipped less, generally.wolf89 wrote:What? Don't you always just buy a beer and then go sit down?

I think this is worth a read as well. I can see why you wouldn't want to tip in the UK either, since apparently tax has to be added to any change in the bill
