Re: Tottenham eh...
Apparently theres something about to kick off in Croydon. A bloke was shot dead in West Norwood early this morning. May be to do with this or may be to do with copycats.

The main issue at the moment is that the bullet allegedly fired at police was..... a police bullet.... and the gun that the bloke had on him was actually in a sock in the footwell of his car.JBoy wrote:Said on bbc news he was armed, police are going to shoot you if they feel youre a threat the public.particle-jim wrote:was he though? many conflicting reports on thisJBoy wrote:Fair enough you'd obviously know more than me since you live there but how does the poilce shooting an armed man warrant all these riots? To say confidence in the Met has been knocked a bit over the past year or so would be an understatement.

they are getting most of their coverage from the police themselves. so yeah I would take any reports with a pinch of salt.
Also I think the issues behind these riots run a lot deeper and are a lot more complex than you are making them out to be. I'm surprised shit hasn't kicked off sooner because the amount of shit we have had put up with as a nation over just the past year and a half is disgusting.
I would liken the whole Duggan fiasco to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand nearly a hundred years ago. Although not directly related to other countries, it acted as a spark that served to ignite the undercurrents of discontent that had been brewing across the whole of Europe. This time, things are localised and are intra-national.
I saw a documentary a short while back. It stated that something like 95% of the people in power now were people who were basically fast tracked through their life onto the political mainstage. The majority of native CEOs also come from private school-Bullingdon club-Eton stock. The black card has almost as much credibility in the 21st Century as it had towards the end of the 19th century. It was only during the 60s/70s that economic disparity showed any signs of trending towards equalisation, however now though, things are as bad as they were over 100(!seriously!) years ago.JBoy wrote:What a bunch of idiotic scum. Im sure there is thousands of people from rough areas with underprivaliged backgrounds that have achieved something in life and are doing well for themselves. The whole black card doesnt have any credability in the 21st century.

I find that hard to believe tbh. I personally think one of the police officers accidently let off a shot, the other officers then thought it was the suspect shooting (as police officers have to give warning/say when they are going to fire), and then fired on the suspect.oski wrote:What magma said... there's a lot of people saying he got dragged out the car.. pinned to the floor and shot execution style..

I don't think it has much to do with race, i believe it's more of a class issue and treatment by police to inner city/urban(cringe) teens/post teens

Re: Tottenham eh...
that's possible as well.. but if you distrust the police as much as a large number of people in london do then you're going to believe that they executed him. and that would make you very angryLA_Boxers wrote:I find that hard to believe tbh. That's got to be the most likely, but it'll be interesting to see quite how many witnesses are called by the IPCC and what they say happened. It's too early for wild speculation, though, you're right.LA_Boxers wrote:I find that hard to believe tbh. Re: Tottenham eh...
Compared to some of the shitty places in the world, england doesnt have it that bad at all and its not like the riots are people fighting for political or social change like in syria or eygypt for example, its just a bunch of hooligans causing trouble for everyone else.hugh wrote:they are getting most of their coverage from the police themselves. so yeah I would take any reports with a pinch of salt.

Re: Tottenham eh...
No but I do strongly feel that these riots epitomise the working and middles classes growing frustrations. And quite rightly.
Remember this isn't just about having or not having. It's about control and disparity. And I do believe it is a very social thing, just many of those involved are not quite aware of the fact.
Look at the Russian Revolution. Most of the proletariat were not particularly educated on what was going on around them. They just knew they were pissed off about 'something'.
I'm not condoning the hooliganism or the violence in any way. I don't believe comparing our culture to Egyptian culture is wise either.
The positives that come out of this stuff? These events reaffirm the populace's belief that if we are truly not happy about something, then we can quickly start tearing shit up and make a real point. Noone remembers some pussy who campaigned with a little banner. Everyone remembers that guy who threw a fucking fire extinguisher off the roof during the student riots though. Get my point?

Re: Tottenham eh...
The student riots were just as pathetic, i know its expensive etc but half of uni applicants will have it all payed for by mummy and daddy and the other half will pay a fiver of there student loan back a week so by the time they die it still wont have been payed, so whats the big drama?hugh wrote:No but I do strongly feel that these riots epitomise the working and middles classes growing frustrations. I'm sure in 20 years they'll be building monuments to dumbass who through fire extinguisher. When people visit England it will be a landmark tourists will come visit. There will be a small portion of a stone building with a student hurling a fire extinguisher.... the plaque will read "in the early 21st century during a student riot this guy through a fire extinguisher off a roof"
are you fucking joking? No ones going to remember that dumbass
History remembers those who brought about actual change.... and change is never done the easy way. If a riot actually changed anything in the government, people would riot daily. It doesn't. History remembers those who took the hard route. Those who suffered for what they believe in. The civil rights marches, Tianeman square, Iranian Revolution, The Monday Demonstrations, history remembers this... not fire extinguisher guy.
