Define 'dubstep'.

To a certain extent, the way the word 'dubstep' is thrown around to give a name to tunes that vaguely resemble the true sound (which now seem to represent the word 'dubstep' now anyway) does really, really get under my skin... That's all that's ever irritated me. People that 'love dubstep' being ignorant pricks. But then when I think again, as long as the sound we all know and love keeps getting pushed, then fuck it. Let 'dubstep' get put on the next 'Now that's what I call music', and let us keep to our underground stuff.

The more underground "our" style dubstep goes the better IMO. I wish the more commercialised dubstep could be more easily seperated from the old sounds. End of the day its all dubstep and it always will be a collaboration of the deep and bro-step styles and we should all accept that. If we like it, we listen to it, if we dont then we dont continue to listen to it and look more into the producers work.

I would say Skrillex represents a "part" of dubstep but not dubstep as a whole, he helps show the variety of producing skills that goes into making dubstep tunes not just how low they can get the sub bass, which dont get me wrong, I love, and Im not saying any song by Loefah or Distance for example which has just low sub bass and a kick-snare combination shows any less producing talent than lots of different sounds by Skrillex. Basically its all to do with how each producer uses sounds to produce tunes that we love, some more than others.

I also agree with what someone said earlier about how Skrillex appears to be improving, not gonna lie, i would love to see him collab with people like Flux, cos then he might tone the high pitch messy madness down but still keep that cool electro sound he makes along with some cool rhythms with the help from some more elite producers.

Im gonna get in the shower now and have a wank....

I cannot agree that Skrillex is the biggest name in dubstep though (not said by you), Because in my eyes and the eyes of many others, he just doesn't make dubstep.

have you seen the hate the guy gets on there on a weekly basis!!!!!! and hes not even playing there. you cant go a week in there without seeing ppl hating on him. now they wanna put him infront of us? Im sorry but part of me cant help but feel GD are selling out themselves now theyre getting successful. I mean their names 'GET DARKER' ie, promoting the real side of dubstep, and now they have skrillex on. it makes no sence

I had a VIDEO interview scheduled with Skrillex, which has been re-scheduled....PLEASE dont shoot me down yet..... - perhaps consider what a great discussion would have been. Arguably the biggest "dubstep" artist of today by popularity - and to ask him directly, his views and comparison's to the UK sound....to then discuss the sound that GetDarker is passionate about....and perhaps more importantly, where he views the 'genre' is heading.

As this was re-scheduled; we we're offered this video exclusively (almost as an apology) for the late re-arrangement.

We took two views:
1. GetDarker does't include anything of Skrillex, yet he's a major part of 2011's dubstep (irrespective of your views, agreement - its a Fact)...
2. Eager viewers wanting to see the exclusive video; will be forced to trip over other content, generally our UK side.
(perhaps to our pureist fans, it was a bad move - but i still stand by it).

Reading comments of "selling-out" I find very dissappointing; we could have sold out years ago, and again very recently. We haven't. We continue to remain 100% independent. And posting ONE article (in 9 years) which isnt well-received isn't a bad track record.

For those who know me persoanlly, or our regular viewers - are well aware of mine and the teams area's of dubstep that we're passionate about...and I can assure you we will CONTINUE to push this area.

A valid and professional response, fair play to you mate :Q:
Same. Only confused as to what constitutes the "UK sound" as both the deep dark stuff and the screechy stuff came out of the uk? Probably just over thinking it...

Shouts to Cy and Lee for coming and addressing this...but quite frankly, they shouldn't have to. This should all be pretty self explanatory.

Some of you lot need to go and have a big squeeze on your potty until your loaf is freed.

GD has always provided content from all sides of the genre. I really don't see any issue with this and I don't see why anyone should be upset.

My god that drop is crap. Don't see the point in producing dubstep that sounds like pigs being slaughtered.

All this reminds me of people saying The Prodigy had "killed rave" back in 1991.

There are so many morons in this world, and most of them think they own dubstep, seemingly.
