Who would've thought people would be protective of something they like?

Wow the Irony... that was the most 'generic' comment against Skrillex i've ever heard. Putting some bad rep on this forum man. DAYUM !Anne Droid wrote:pdomino wrote:haha ^
I'm not into his music but while everyone was busy giving Skrillex bullshit and free publicity talking about it, he was busy working hard, well done on his 3 grammys.
'Best dance recording' / 'Best electronic album' / 'Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical'. Karma fucked you over haters, not a mention of the D word.
Paul McCartney said it best, something like "..the music belongs to us all, only the companies / corporations wish to have rights and licenses to own it."
skrillex sucks
he isnt even that good of a producer
generic bro shit anyway
fcking bro's ruining real dubstep
The point is more.. it's pretty stupid to be 'protective' over something untangible like music genres because what being 'protective of dubstep' boils down to is bitching about stupid shit no one cares about on a message board. 'Be protective'* about it all you want, it won't change the fact that hundreds of thousands of people will go out to see Skrillex and call it dubstep. So after all of that, has 'being protective' made a different at all?Ghost of Muttley wrote:Who would've thought people would be protective of something they like?
I think you might be ignorant to what the definition of ignorant is, because ignorance is the lack of knowledge.Nevalo wrote:this.tacospheros wrote:maybe the reason people are so protective is because it's literally been infiltrated by people who don't understand it and have turned it into a disfigured walking shell of it's original self, and the majority of people now think that's what dubstep is
i dont know whether its ignorance or just a plain lack of knowledge, but that fact that you get people coming in saying "THIS IS DUBSTEP" and then continue to discredit the orginal sound is what gets to me.
That sounds so good to me! If only it wasn't for those pesky lawmakers and their meddling statutory rape laws.Genevieve wrote:Well.. it's actually true? So many people here claimed 'dubstep' as 'theirs' and can't stand the feeling of being associated with 15 year old (bisexual, n if u dont liek it, deal w/i) girls who drink wine coolers.
i meant in terms of being willfully ignorant...cmgoodman1226 wrote:I think you might be ignorant to what the definition of ignorant is, because ignorance is the lack of knowledge.Nevalo wrote:this.tacospheros wrote:maybe the reason people are so protective is because it's literally been infiltrated by people who don't understand it and have turned it into a disfigured walking shell of it's original self, and the majority of people now think that's what dubstep is

DnB was brought to the masses way before Pendulum but yeah, they did create a lot more listeners. The reason a lot of DnB fans started to hate them is because they had talent, made some big tunes in their early days and then proceeded to water their sound down into soulless bubble gum pop at/around 170 bpm.
Man there's always going to be willfully ignorant people out there. But IMO hate from either side is not going to help. Is your end goal to educate or to bash their skull in to the point that they just retreat further to their own side? I can't really claim myself to have been around all that long seeing I only discovered the genre just a few years ago. But I can tell you that I've been listening to hip hop since I was a kid and the same thing has happened there. So many people are ignorant to guys that I consider dons. For a while I was just so pissed off that people actually enjoyed listening to most of the stuff that plays on the radio nowadays. But the fact is no matter how much of the synthed and pop'd out trap rap gets made, there's always going to be guys pushing the sound that I like; and if somebody else likes all that stuff and doesn't want to learn about what I consider "real hiphop", well then that's their perogative. In that aspect it seems like a futile enterprise (in my experience) to try to ram something down their throats. If they don't want to hear the older stuff or think it's boring, than so what. It doesn't change anything. But maybe I run into someone down the line who's never heard "return of the crooklyn dodgers" or "survival of the fittest" and all the sudden they get into it. But If I were to just tell them, "you're hiphop doesn't sound like the older stuff, and it sucks ass, but mine is good, you should check it out", they probably wouldn't bite. Anyways this made a lot more sense in my head. Either way though, I see where you're coming from and understand the frustration.Nevalo wrote:i meant in terms of being willfully ignorant...cmgoodman1226 wrote:I think you might be ignorant to what the definition of ignorant is, because ignorance is the lack of knowledge.Nevalo wrote:this.tacospheros wrote:maybe the reason people are so protective is because it's literally been infiltrated by people who don't understand it and have turned it into a disfigured walking shell of it's original self, and the majority of people now think that's what dubstep is

ill like this one then, this past week i turned my cousin from thinking all dubstep was shit and that skrillex created it, into getting all the old skream and benga oldies. It was a good weekNevalo wrote:it is just frustration more than anything. i dont care what people listen to, i just hate it when im told that what i (personaly) listen to isnt dubstep... it makes me think "hey, wait a minute, so wtf have i been listening to for the last 6 years?"
ive sort of started to let it go in more recent times thought, and im finding myself trying to educate over just throwing a shitfit, but alas, 9/10 times i get the "this isnt dubstep" or "this isnt filthy/dirty/grimey/skrillexy enough"... and its at that point i usually get increadibly annoyed.
I understand that. I'll be the first to admit that I like a lot of the bro stuff but I also like the deep, and I certainly don't go around saying that the tearout stuff that I listen to is what real dubstep is. One man's fart noise is another man's music I suppose.Nevalo wrote:it is just frustration more than anything. i dont care what people listen to, i just hate it when im told that what i (personaly) listen to isnt dubstep... it makes me think "hey, wait a minute, so wtf have i been listening to for the last 6 years?"

there is a bit of a line between tearout & bro... ie coki, kromestar, goth-trad... they all make good tearout, and it would be pretty hard to catorgorize is as brostepcmgoodman1226 wrote:I understand that.
