Some of my favourite artists ive seen would be mimosa, ill.gates, and bassnectar. Im not really a fan of the majority of datsiks productions, but ive gotta say when he plays on a proper system like the PK in the village hes actually really good live.
ew i went to shambhala once..... the beach stage is cool and I love all the hippies but it was overrun by over agressive coked up idiots... felt like a trailer park trash convention, and 90% of the artists were terrible, Bass Coast on the other hand is amazing
I was in work and met a new person on the sales team. Nice guy. He mentioned he was into Dubstep, at first I was like (in my head) 'cool, someone to chat music with', but being wary of what people think Dubstep is now, I asked what producers. He said he didn't really know the names, got me thinking fuck yes, must be the underground shit, finally!! 'Think one of them is called Flux something or other and matey boy who won the grammies.'
It actually made me want to start kicking shit over. Didn't think it would bother me at all. So didn't mention I'm even involved at all becasue I couldnt be arsed to explain I'm into actual Dubstep and all that entails, not Brostep or whatever dumb fucking name is being used now.
It did used to properly irk me that all the big names, the ultra cool and fashionable had abandoned 'dubstep' the term and perhaps even the heritage. Pretending they were never into it and house/garage was what they were doing all along. But this properly made me realise why that even completely bent names like 'Future Garage' are so much more applicable.
I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.

Just got clocked shopping around vinyl pressing plants at work. Awkward questions ensued.

You've only just encounted this? Your first mistake (and its a big one) was assuming someone claiming they like dubstep would be in to proper dubstep, your second mistake was that someone who knows no producers of a genre they claim to be in to would be in to the underground stuff.
I almost always assume when someone says they listen to dubstep that its brostep, that way i'm never disappointed when thats the result.. but if it turns out they're into the good stuff i'm pleasently surprised and chat to them. (This has happened zero times so far outside of a rave)

It sounds weird but I've never been in a position where I have had this happen before. The majority of my mates are music heads be it fans or producers, properly into the deeper sides of their chosen genres. Even at my last job, all of my team we're proper educated on music (only a group of 7 people). So they'd either know what they were talking about or they would know the sounds played by others that has caught their attention. But now, I deal with a much larger spectrum of people at a much larger company. But yeah, a couple of mistakes on my behalf from living in a wonderful little bubble called Bristol I guess.

Yeah but Brian McFadden is still considered a "celebrity" in Australia therefore you lose all musical arguments

You're lucky then! Most of my friends listen to chart music, stuff you'd hear in a regular club on a saturday night and have no interest in electronic music, however i have a few mates who are exactly those people who youtube "FILTHY DERBSTEP" and love it.. its quite frustrating to be around them when they talk about dubstep and act like they're really clued up and these big fans, but couldn't name a single label, radio station, dj or producer outside of their youtube "filth".
The people I know that like brostep are all man-children that only care about getting girls, but think the way to get them is to do as many shots as possible, call everything epic, and get in as many shots by tilllate.com that they can.

I feel that, i mean i wasn't around whatsoever til prob mid-2010, and had no idea what was going on until then.. but at this point in my life i'm truly bummed that "dubstep" is such wasteman shit
with the raves that popular halfstep producers put on for the mainstream crowd, to do halfstep seems cliche, ugly and seems kinda like old news.. but i was just getting into it
now people want to distance themselves from it
i'm gonna miss dubstep
