I personally think Burial deserves the hype.
your missing my point. I think the music is good but the stuff writen about him just getts on my tits. and to an extent soils my enjoyment of the tunes.

Archangel, Near Dark & Untrue hit me all straight away. Especially Archangel, it's an awesome, awesome track. the rest will definately grow on me, but they lack the impact of the 3 i mentioned.. i agree with Corpsey about Archangel.. to my ears its the best song he's done alongside Broken Home.

hahaha twat.

you know what i mean though.
Look i probably like Burial as much as all the people who praise him to high heavan. After all i do play his tunes on my show. Im just a cynic so what the hell do you expect.

I really like it - even better than the first album. Best dubstep album to date.
The only thing I'm not crazy about is the pitch shitfing effect on some of the vocals... sounds a bit forced and kind of reminds me of the "Cher effect"

Etched Headplate, Shell of light and UK are some of the best tracks I've heard in a long long time.
UK reminds me of Orbital, but much darker, like those moments at huge live dance gigs where everyone is memorised for a few seconds before they realise what tune is coming. The kind of tune that would never get put on an album by a band like that, but they'd break out in the middle of their live set or improvise. I cannot wait to get home and mix this.

Corpsey wrote:But for most of the album I can't really see the UK underground connection, it seems more connected sonically to European ambient/minimal stuff.
i keep thinking of the orb and fsol - lifeforms when listening to it. so yeh, i def agree there.

I keep it topical.
Got an odd press of the album, tracklisting on labels and backsleeve don't tie up with the actual tunes (unless for some reason there's a tune that isn't Archangel with the words archangel being repeated a lot). Think it might have the ambient bits too unless there's just particularly long outros.
All very confusing, could make debate about the album a bit abstract. Is top notch though

It's funny because in that old blackdown interview he says how dismayed he was when Kode 9 sent him Pole and Basic Channel tunes by way of comparison with Burial tunes.
I suppose the fact that the music he makes turns out so different to the stuff he idolises (Foul Play, El-B etc... though there are similarities of course) is testament to how he's gone out there on his own and created the music only he can create. Should really stand as an example to more producers out there.

The word archangel appears a lot on ''Etched Headplate''

Apparently the tracklisting on the sleeves of the earlier pressings is a bit wrong. Hold on to it tho, probably be worth something in a few years innit

The distributors sent out a letter saying that they can either be returned or kept as collector's items and sold on e-bay later. Great to see someone turning a mistake into a sales pitch

Hahahah, yeah I just got my copy of the 2LP today, and the tracklisting is ALL jacked up! I cant even figure out how someone could mix it up that bad... the D side and A side track names are switched, and the C side is mislabeled as the D side, lol. The tracklist on the sleeve is for the CD, not the vinyl! Really funny.
Collectors item indeed

The 2LP arrived in the post today.... YES!
The 12" x 12" print that's included is a nice touch. I think I'll be getting that framed.
