our school was next to a slaughterhouse and in the backyard i was witness the slaughter of cows and sheeps, then walked around the corner to the frontside where the butcher's shop was, saw some old ladys walking in and buying some ground beef and sausages in small packages, had a chat and a laugh with the butcher and walked out with a smile on thery face and these small packages..

stopped eating meat ever since

Maybe im just brainwashed enough to give myself a load of excuses why it's alright. And looking at nature, it does seem 'natural' to eat meat... tho breeding and rounding up cows killing a fuckload and shipping them to supermarkets takes out the natural aspect...
if you look at nature sure but mankind is not natural

you brought up a good word to explain you meat eaters....BRAINWASHED......i believe that a lot with religion as well in america. youre brought up a certain way surrounded by meat and you just automatically assume that is what is good for you. its what there is to eat and not eating it is just stupid. when in fact the healthy part of being vegetarian is now being questioned.....or should i say you meat eaters.

go research what youre putting into your body. again, this isnt just fresh cow or pig. youre not even sure what youre ingesting. its called growth hormones[edit: not ALL meat contains growth hormones, but do you really know what is being put into these animals? does it say on the packaging?]. do the research. this shit will kill you before those cigarettes or before a few drinks will. its the main reason i stopped eating meat. its really not as good for you as you all would think.

which is why im gonna be going to school for this all.....and then become a nutritionist for vegetarians. large up vegetarian massive!!!

and ps about the cat food.....i have a cat. and ive fed him organic food from the day i got him. that cat food you buy for like 99cents is shit. total shit. its also leftovers from you meat eaters. for a while, there was this huge scare of all these cat foods being contaminated or some shit and reports of like kidney failure, etc. so i was just gonna start blending up some rice and veggies and good quality meats for him. BUT im broke. i cant do that right now....eventually i will. because i want my cat to have a good diet. and they are ANIMALS. theyre barely domesticated. they hunt themselves out of instinct. we do not....we hunt for a sport which is ridiculous. BUT anyway....i heard theres a vegetarian catfood? my friend was using it for a while. i wanted to try it for him, but its true. animals need meat. [/b]

The traceability of meat processes is getting and better, so to say all meat contains growth hormones is not exactly true is it, if so, I'd love to see the research.

Damn, this is a huge ass thread.

I didn't think there would be som many vegetarians in this forum.

I stopped eating meat all together the day after this thanksgiving. I figure if I can lower/eliminate my involvement with animals being killed, then it's a step in the right path.

Oh yeah, whats up with all these pricks supporting Michael Vick?? 24 months is not an acceptable sentence.. 240 years locked up in a brazlilian jail seems a bit more fitting to me.

Ex-vegetarian here. Gave up eating meat on principle when I was 8, but three years ago in a steakhouse in Barcelona I cracked. Figured I'd be OK since it happened abroad etc. but have been eating meat ever since. Oh well. On balance though it's a very small part of my diet and I could, if I wanted to, happily go without it.

vegetarian of 18 years right here.

have had some poultry and a few bites of fish, one bite of steak, one bite of hamburger my entire life. never had any pig. never will.

in all honestly, the ecological, economical, and political reasons for my long standing vegetarianism are way secondary to the fact that i just love animals and can not bring myself to eat their flesh.

i respect all living creatures as being precious and valuable and a significant part of the whole, intertwined, interconnected, and cyclical, and all deserving of equal love and honor. I say prayers for fleas when i flush them down the sink, (i'm sorry, have to protect my pets!!) . for me all animals are just as sacred as humans. plants are as well, every living thing . . but since i havn't mastered the art of pure-air-survival i try to honor and bless the souls of those i consume or destroy. I understand the sacrifice of their physical body for mine, and I see it as their soul as well becoming part of mine, as i ingest them we become one entity, and we are all one whole in the first place.

not when it is tainted with the stench of misery and torture, and the blood of dishonoring the value of life.
