i'm not saying there's anything wrong with pop music or dumb music or anything.

i'm saying that you can't dismiss the fact that there are people out there trying to influence you.

I agree with that. It is also useful for the purposes of those who are not supporters of the status quo and mainstream culture or who are opposed to it- to not ascribe too much power to those who are dominant players in our political and economic systems.

The reason i say this is because it leads to a cynicism that can immobilize one who takes that position.

On a personal level - I just freed myself recently from that sort of cynicism.

Here's an example..

It is true that I like that Juvenile song that I posted about recently - Back that Ass Up - Do I want an army of young people buying into the lyrics?! Absolutely not, they are disgusting and pathetic...

If you could convince me that the majority of the adults/children consuming that can recognize the wrongness of it, I would be ok - but I'm not convinced.

I think he has unfortunatly done a diservice to his people. Great song though.

well that almost goes without saying. it is called practicing awareness and critical thinking for one's survival and mental health.
Everyone has an agenda and motivations, so it pays to be vigilant over ones mind at all times so that one can determine what values, decisions and purchases are internally derived and what values, decisions and purchases are externally influenced.

wow! this thread really went astray didn't it- lol

yeah ! i get your point. but really man all he is really promoting with those lyrics is the process, ritual and foreplay that enable pro-creation and the survival of the species. what could be more wholesome than that?

I am totally aligned with those values!

I love when my wife "backs that ass up" ! :)
